With some fading to some of the pales colours and discolouration due to age and sun damage. Not viewed out of glazed frame. Hanging eyletts to the back a little loose and in need of attention.

Anna Bland her Work Oct'r 10th 1761" (SIC), within a polychrome foliate needlework border, housed in a glazed frame, the sampler 28cm wide, 29.5cm high, the frame 45cm wide, 49cm high. *CR The colours of the sampler are good with minor fading, Some small holes visible, the largest to the lower left hand corner, some brown staining to the lower section.
A GEORGE III QUAKER MAP SAMPLER DATED 1783 Woven inscription 'A New Map of England and Wales worked at Tottenham by Ann Hopkins Smith 1783', in later glazed frame the sampler approximately 54cm x 47.5cm, the frame 62cm x 56cm Provenance: Works of Art from the collection of the late Roger Warner Esq, offered by his family "... be patterns, be examples in all countries... that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people and to them; then you will come to walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone." George Fox The Quaker or Society of Friends movement was established in Tottenham in the late 17th century with George Fox recording his visit to the movement in 1689 and the Tottenham Monthly Meeting established in 1691. Ann Hopkins Smith (1768-1851) and her sister Mary Smith (1770-1857) were devout Quakers and neither of them married. Ann became a noted philanthropist as well as participating in many social causes such as the anti-slavery movement and penitentiary reform. Her obituary in 1852 records the numerous legacies she left together with the substantial number of building works, good works and charitable deeds executed within her lifetime. Condition Report: With wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. all details seem to be hand stitched The whole with rumpling and puckering as surface has pulled between threading. Staining to margins notably lower left corner, lower edge, left hand edge and scattered spot and water stains throughout. Creasing and fold marks, colour muting and wear. Loose threads and some loss around stitching- see around Yarmouth East Anglia and sections of main writing "England" for example. Unexamined out of sealed frame- frame with knocks and losses and wear.The whole will greatly benefit from remedial work, restretching and flattening- if possible. A Victorian wool work sampler, late 19th century, worked by Mary Hughes aged ten and dated 1884, depicting a manor house and garden with figures and animals, framed and glazed, 40cm x 43cm overall; with a further wool work embroidery depicting a young girl and her dog, maple framed and glazed, 63.5cm x 57cm (2) (at fault) CONDITION REPORT:Both pieces are framed under glass and have not been removed for inspection. The Mary Hughes sampler shows some small losses to the left and bottom edges which are visible in the frame. The lower central section shows an area of discoloration. The colours overall are quite bright, but are likely to have faded somewhat over time. The girl and dog embroidery shows staining to the backing fabric in the upper half of the picture, and some fading to the colours.

Small areas of stitching missing to the named 'plaque'. There's two small pieces of moulding missing to the bottom edge of the frame. Light wear to the frame. Wear and cracks to the gilt slip. Condition report:Badly (and sadly) faded. Stitching generally good. Some holes within the woven ground - espcially LL just outside the meandering bramble - other small tears.
