A 1948 St Moritz Winter Olympics pin badge in black enamel with Olympic rings, "Hungaria St Moritz 1948" CONDITION REPORT: Provenance - Ernest James Henry (Billy) Holt, CMG, CBE (1883 - 1972) who for more than 50 years was closely associated with athletics. He started as a sprinter with South London Harriers and turned to the administration side of the sport when he retired, He became an honorary official in 1907 when he was appointed assistant secretary of South London Harriers. In 1932 he became treasurer of the Amateur Athletic Association and progressed to become honorary secretary of the Amateur Athletic Board and honorary secretary treasurer of the International Amateur Athletic Federation. He was Director of Organization for the 1948 Olympic Games in London and was later invited to be adviser and technical director for the organisation of the 1956 games in Melbourne. He also held other roles in the Los Angeles 1932, Berlin 1936 and Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. In recognition of his services to the sport he was awarded the O.B.E. in 1947, C.B.E in 1953 and C.M.G. in 1957 Freemasonry - He was initiated in Black Horse of Lombard Street Lodge, No. 4155, in 1922, Master of Athlon Lodge in 1938 and had coached the long-distance athlete, Gordon Pirie.

His hits from the late 1950s included Great Balls of Fire, All Shook up, and Handy Man. Cartoonist Nicholas Garland spent his early life in New Zealand before studying at the Slade. He subsequently worked in theatre, including at the Royal Court on Sloane Square at the end of the 1950s. But in 1964 he devoted himself to cartooning, working at the Spectator and at Private Eye where he collaborated with Barry Humphries, before being appointed the first political cartoonist of the Daily Telegraph in 1966 where he stayed for the next twenty years. In 1986 he joined the nascent Independent, before returning to the Telegraph for another two decades, retiring in 2011. He was appointed cartoonist for the London Olympics in 2012.

Emma Hardy J-Cloths, 2004 C-type print from negative Signed on Front with COA 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) About Emma Hardy is a british photographer. She studied drama & French at Bristol University, then lived and worked in Paris for 5 years. Returning to London she worked as an actress for a few years until she realised she was much happier behind a camera. She started photographing portraits, documents and fashion for British Vogue, the Telegraph magazine, Vanity Fair, The Fader, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time, Harpers Bazaar, among many other international titles, and had her first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2006 with a project titled 'Exceptional Youth.' Other exhibitions in London, New York and Milan followed, and she was invited to photograph a series of portraits for the London 2012 Olympics, again featured at the National Portrait Gallery. Thirty-nine of her portraits are in the permanent collection at the NPG London. In 2012 she was commissioned by Oxfam & The Economist to travel to Cambodia to document the citizens of Phnom Penh who were battling the governments land grabs-this series became an exhibition in London in 2013 titled 'Losing Ground,' the exhibition travelled to Washington DC where the images were used as a lobbying tool to help the Cambodian situation onto the G8 summit list. Permissions, her first monograph, which documented her family over 20 years, was published by Gost Books in November 2022 and sold out swiftly. A selection of the images were exhibited at 1014 Gallery in Dalston, London, December 2022 - January 2023. Further solo exhibitions in Lisbon at Narrativa Gallery and in Brussels Belladone Gallery as part of the Photo Festival 2024. The work was long-listed for the Deutsche Borse Photography Prize 2024. Powered by Ford’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder Kent engine, here it drives the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. With its wide grille, ‘Consul’ branding towards the leading edge of the bonnet, and wing-mirrors placed forward of the windscreen, ‘SDX 894’ retains many of its original features. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in blue, with upholstery, door cards, dash top, and steering wheel sharing the same shade. In Deluxe 1500 trim, the door tops and dashboard are body-coloured, while the front seats are a single bench, with a column-mounted shifter allowing for an additional passenger in the front.‘SDX 894’ is offered with a very good history of ownership and has been cherished by fans of the MkI Cortina. In fact, it has previously been owned by the second member of the MkI Cortina Owners Club, and is currently in the hands of the Chairman. As such, it has been cherished, and the vendor describes the bodywork, paint, and interior as in ‘good’ condition, while the engine, transmission, and electrics are ‘average’ for this model. Described as ‘running well’, ‘SDX 894’ benefits from a new servo, disc brakes upgrade with copper brake pipes, a stainless steel exhaust, electronic ignition, and wax-oiled doors. Displaying an indicated 126,700 miles, this example of the Consul Cortina MkI has been carefully looked after, despite having gone once around the clock, and been recorded as a Category C write-off.· Fine example of Ford’s first-generation Consul Cortina· Long history of ownership· Practical classic with front bench seat and estate rearFord introduced the Consul Cortina MkI in 1962, replacing the Consul, with a design from Roy Abbott Brown Jr – recently dispatched to Ford of Britain after his Edsel was not well received Stateside. His career in the UK certainly didn’t suffer the same fate. Available as a two- or four-door saloon, or five-door estate, the Consul Cortina was designed to be a best-seller from the off, and came with a choice of engines and transmissions. The Consul name, retained from the previous model and combined with the 1956 Winter Olympics-inspired ‘Cortina’ badge, was dropped in 1964, as Ford saw a comprehensive marketing campaign, including race and rally-success, keep the MkI in production until 1966.
