Leonora Jenner - revival of 17th century needlework - an embroidered (stumpwork) mirror 20th century, within a shaped, ebonised and glazed frame, centred by an oval mirror plate, signed above in gold thread 'LEONORA JENNER', the main panel richly embroidered on a pale gold ground with figures in a garden landscape, depicting a King and Queen, a couple on horseback, a young maiden playing a lute and others eating and engaged in leisurely pursuits, a three tier fountain to the top centre and the figures interspersed with many animals, birds, flowers and insects to include a Lion, Leopard, Dalmatian, Rabbit, Squirrel, Snail, Caterpillar, Bee, Fly etc, trees, flowers, a frigate at sea, a distant palace and the sun emerging from behind a storm cloud, 25¼ x 19in. (64 x 48.2cm.). *Frame with surface wear and scratches, mirror plate with a line of distress to the silvering. The embroidery bright and very good overall, with strong colours. A little age related toning to the gold ground, mainly to the margins and slightly heavier area of toning to the upper right corner. No insect damage or losses visible to the stumpwork.
