An attractive Chinese embroidery, the plain black satin ground elaborately worked in satin stitch and heavy gold brocading with a large quatrefoil medallion, the cloud-band outline containing five imperial dragons, four flaming pearls and the Eight Daoist Symbols – fan, castanets, flute, sword, gourd with staff, bamboo tube with wands, flower basket and lotus blossom-with scattered cloud-bands and ‘wave mountain’ at base. Late 19th century, textile overall 32¾in. x 46in. 83cm. x 117cm. Very slight loss to outer outline at top, now covered by frame, otherwise in near perfect condition.
