PENDULE en bronze doré et patiné intitulée "La Liseuse". Elle est assise sur un large fauteuil gondole et appuyée sur une table drapée ornée d`un cadran émaillé à chiffres romains. Socle en marbre vert reposant sur des pieds toupies en bronze. Époque Empire. (Légères usures et petits éclats au cadran). Haut. 34 - Larg. 29,5 - Prof. 14 cm Historique : Ce modèle de pendule a été créé par Jean-André Reiche (1752-1817), bronzier et dessinateur, et exécuté d`après un dessin aquarellé déposé à la Bibliothèque Impériale, le 19 février 1805. Des variantes existent avec tantôt une lampe à huile ou même un chien comme pour l`exemplaire conservé au château de Fontainebleau, tantôt, une pile de livres, comme c`est le cas ici. PAIRE DE FAUTEUILS DE GROTTE en bois sculpté, l`assise et le dossier en forme de coquille sur lequel reposent des accotoirs en forme de dauphins. Pieds cambrés rocailles. Attribuée à la Maison Pauly et Cie à Venise, seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Haut. 85 cm - Larg. 61 cm - Prof. 64 cm Historique : Notre paire de fauteuils de grotte est caractéristique de la vogue des meubles de fantaisie du XIXe siècle produit à Venise par la Maison Pauly et Cie. Le goût pour les grottes débute dès la Renaissance mais se développe avec l`aristocratie du XVIIIe siècle en Europe, en continuité du Baroque et dans l`esprit des "giardani segreti". Elle fait construire des grottes avec des fontaines, mais aussi des folies, des pavillons, des pagodes où l`exotisme demeure prioritaire, le mobilier doit ainsi s`intégrer parfaitement à son environnement. Le goût pour le rocaille fit des coquillages un de ses thèmes majeurs. C`est cependant à Venise à la fin du XIXe siècle que ce mobilier connut son développement le plus spectaculaire, avec l`atelier Pauly et Cie qui créa des modèles de sièges combinant les motifs de dauphins, coquillages, hippocampes. Ce mobilier était destiné à agrémenter les jardins d`hiver en recréant une nature luxuriante ou une atmosphère exotique. Ce mobilier fut créé jusque vers 1930 et eut beaucoup de succès encore au XXe siècle. De grandes personnalités en possédaient dans leur collections tels que Helena Rubinstein, Maria Felix, Indira Gandhi ou encore Henri Matisse qui représenta ce même modèle dans un de ses tableaux.
