Click here to subscribeStandard D3 deck of De La Rue playing cards, with Royal coat of arms to rear, from Dudley Ollis' collection and displaying his accompanying descriptions, Mr Rayner notes: 'See DLR 14 and DLR 15 above for discussion re: back design. This appears to be the same design as offered by Dominic Winter as lot 554 on 15 December 2022 (description filed with pack) where it is suggested that this design was 'very rare', and apparently not for public distribution, but one of a very few made exclusively for Queen Victoria herself. This seems to rely on John Berry's description of item 1028 in the Guildhall collection, and the article by John Thorpe in The Playing-Card volume 33 No. 3, which itself seems to rely only on JB's description. By contrast Ken Lodge mentions the back design as being known on D3 packs, without reference to its supposed rarity or Royal connection.' Complete set of 52 cards, some grubbiness throughout but condition is otherwise basically good
