A LARGE AND IMPRESSIVE UNMARKED ANGLO-INDIAN REPOUSSÉ SILVER LIDDED CONTAINER WITH LION FINIAL Possibly Kutch, Gujarat, North-Western India, 19th centuryOf tall, cylindrical shape, resting on a splayed base chased in high relief with large rosettes and curling foliage, with a compressed, dome-like lid, once hinged, surmounted by a resting lion with upward-curled tail, the repoussé container possibly once used as a betel box chased in high relief with typical Kutch silver motifs including vases issuing lush floral meanders and vegetal stems, livened by parakeets and birds perched on the flower branches, around the base six standing maidens in a pose reminiscent of Buddhist and Hindu Tree Deities (shalabhanjikas) but dressed in Western attires, attached to an interlinked chainlet going around the base, the lid decorated with a band of stylised palmettes around the rim, rosette scrolls and fretwork above it, and hatched and wavy designs at the top below the finial, the interior of the base incised with a large floral medallion, unmarked.16cm diam. and 35.5cm high3675 grams 16cm diam. and 35.5cm high Qty: 3
Ca. AD 30 - 375.A carved schist head of bodhisattva in the Kushan Empire technique. The elaborately fashioned ushnisha has overflowing hair, set within a headband. The face depicts a serence expression with deep set eyes, long nose, lobed ears and mustached lips. Lantern Slides. Kerry, Australia, Samoa A collection of lantern slides contained in wooden and cardboard boxes. Subjects include images by Kerry (labeled) showing people and scenes in Australia. Stuffed birds, sheep farming, indigenous people, blue gums in a billabong, ruins of a church and Macrae's Hotel after an eruption on June 10th, 1886. Named people include: Rewi, Tawhana, Taonui. Other slides show Maori and Samoan women, Buddhist Priests, caves of N.S.W., fauna of Ceylon. (72) Mainly in good condition. A few images have cracked glass and missing edge binding.

A Chinese pale celadon jade cover for a box, 19th century, carved in relief with a flaming Buddhist wheel emblem, 7.5cm wide. Condition - box base lacking, cover good Faint crack to edge, visible top and underside, approx. 10mm; has two very small holes to underside of rim, designed to hold cover in place when on top of the (lacking) box-base.
A GOOD PAIR OF CHINESE POWDER BLUE GLAZED PORCELAIN VASES, FRENCH GILT BRONZE MOUNTED, 18TH CENTURY. Oviform vases covered with an even mottled powder blue glaze, each with underglaze blue Lozenge (Fangsheng) mark to base in double ring with a Buddhist swastika to edge, 18th century. Mounted with ornate gilt bronze handles on stand, probably French 19th century and later converted to lamps. Vase including stand and handle, 41cm. (2) Condition: Single hole drilled to centre of each base. Small holes drilled to each side to mount the handles. The vases themselves are in good condition with no signs of cracks damage or repairs to the body. The rims under the mount have not been inspected but there are no underlying visible damages.

Y MONTBLANC, MIYAMOTO MUSASHI 77 A LIMITED EDITION FOUNTAIN PEN, NO. 4/77, 2007 Cap and Barrel: The black lacquer barrel engraved with five Kanji characters in tribute to the 'Go Rin No Sho' (Book of Five Rings), the cap set with five bands brilliant cut diamonds and a mother of pearl Montblanc rounded star cap, the clip modelled as a Samurai katana, stamped 750 with Swiss assay marks and common control marks Nib and Filling System: Medium yellow gold coloured nib stamped 18K and 750 and engraved with two crossed Samurai Kanji, piston filling system, uninked Accessories: Original black lacquer Montblanc Miyamoto Musashi box, Miyamoto Musashi booklet, Miyamoto Musashi outer card box and outer white card box One of the greatest Samurai swordsmen, Miyamoto Musashi (1584-1645) developed a style of two handed swordsmanship that is still used in martial arts today. As a Samurai warrior he also mastered the arts of the tea ceremony, calligraphy and ink painting, for which he was equally accomplished. Towards the end of his life he became a hermit, and wrote his seminal work 'Go Run No Sho' (The Book Of Five Rings), which was his philosophy on swordsmanship with is basis in Buddhist principles.Provenance: A Single Owner Collection of Fine and Limited Edition Montblanc Pens and Accessories Condition Report: As new, uninked and unused. A 19thc Wucai dish painted in the Ming style, the centre painted with a Buddhist Lion surrounded by precious objects and buddhist motifs, and with lotus flowers and foliage. Bearing a pseudo six character mark for the Wanli Emperor, but probably mid to late 19thc in date. 28cms diameter. *CR Good condition and rings nicely, very tiny flea bite to the rim, and flea bite to the reverse (very minor).
A large early 20thc blue silk robe, embroidered with Dragon's within circular panels above waves. With various buddhist symbols and multi coloured bands to the lower section, and with a material lining (approx 145cms high). Also with a yellow silk skirt, wig, hat, and another garment. *This has been inherited through the family, it was apparently custom made for their grandfather who was a large man at 6ft 4ins. This and the other items were apparently used as a fancy dress outfit during the 1920's and worn to the Chelsea Arts Ball. *CR Gown, a little wear around the collar, some loose threads in places to the Dragon's and symbols, the hem on both sides has come undone on the sides and needs a little repair (see images), otherwise it has survived in generally good condition with colours still bright.

Dimension: Height 25,8 cm ; Wide 23 cm ; Depth 15 cmWeight: 270,4 grams Buddhist Art from this period were more heavily influenced by the Pala style of India which had come to the region via the Mon and Arakanese Kingdoms. A rare and beautiful Pagan Burmese Bronze Buddha Statue with an unusual smooth surface. Most Burmese Buddha statues are seen with hair curls (small round bumps), with a slightly raised rounded usnisha. The raised urna on the centre of the forehead is referred to as the “Eye of Wisdom”. This Buddha is seen here seated, the face shows a calm serene, with the full lips upturned at the corners, eyes are cast downwards, hand gesture in bhumisparsa mudra, dressed in a simple monks robe, typical of the Pagan style Buddha statue. The Pagan kingdom was at its height between 11th and 13th Century. Pagan art and Buddha statues similar to this can be seen in the alcoves of the Ananda temple in Bagan (Pagan), located Southwest of Mandalay in central Myanmar.

The figure is dressed in elaborately pleated garments, leaving the chest exposed.A strand of beads adorns the figure’s neck. The bodhisattva depicted here is Guanyin, the most used Chinese translation of the bodhisattva known as Avalokitesvara.Guanyin is the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion.Although this is obviously part of a complete sculpture, the very fine detail shows what a great piece of sculpture this would have been originally.
