Promoted Lieutenant in June 1917, he was taken seriously ill with lung trouble in August 1917, and died at the Royal Naval Hospital, Queenstown, County Cork, Ireland, on 17 February 1918. He is buried under a C.W.G.C. Headstone in Cobh (Queenstown) Old Church Cemetery, County Cork, Ireland.
