A George III mahogany and inlaid longcase clock, circa 1800, the broken scroll pediment with replacement gilt brass paterae over a dentil moulding and open foliate fretwork border over a blind fretwork frieze and further dentil moulding and chevron strung arched glazed door, flanked by ropetwist gilt brass capped corinthian columns and glazed sides, enclosing a 14" arched silvered dial marked Thos Nevill, Bristol, within an engraved garland and below clouds holding Mercury, the Winged Messenger aloft, the corners engraved with figural representatives of the seasons, the dial with roman numerals, brass hands and replaced seconds hand, date aperture and a later painted rolling moon phase in the arch, engraved "High water at Bristol Key" the five pillar 8 day movement with dead beat escapement striking on a bell and with Nevill maintaining power above a dentil moulded and blind fret carved frieze and elaborately shaped door flanked by fluted gilt brass capped corinthian quarter columns over a cushion moulding and shaped base board between blind fret carved canted angles and raised on later ogee bracket feet, with restorations, 103" high
