Anthon 2nd Duke of Aldenburgh 1681-1738, school of Benjamin Arlaud, circa 1710, inscribed with the sitters details on verso, head and shoulders, full face, wearing full wig, pale blue cloak and a blue sash of the order of the garter, watercolour on prepared card, oval 2.25" In 1689 Hans Willem Bentinck, companion and advisor to Prince of Orange and Stadtholder of Holland was created Baron Cirencester, Viscount Woodstock and Earl of Portland for the then William III of Orange. His second daughter in law, Charlotte Sophie Aldenburgh married the First Duke of Portland in 1733.
