RARE VASE POT-POURRI EN PORCELAINE DE LA FAMILLE ROSE MONTÉ EN BRONZE DORÉ Vers 1745, la monture tardive A RARE ORMOLU-MOUNTED FAMILLE ROSE 'POMPADOUR' PATTERN POT-POURRI JAR Circa 1745, with later mounts 18 cm (7 1/8 in) high Footnotes: 約1745年 龐巴度夫人紋章粉彩鍍金罐 (鍍金邊為後加) Pot-pourri jars of this particular shape appear to be exceptionally rare. A pair of pear-shaped 'Pompadour'-pattern pot-pourri jars and covers, but with unusual pale celadon grounds, was sold in Sotheby's London, 8 November 1994, lot 274 (together with a selection of other pieces of this pattern as lots 254-274). Compare also with a pot-pourri jar of this pattern and with its original cover, sold in Christie's London, 12 May 2009, lot 186. Compare also with a pot-pourri vase from the Louis de Chollet Collection, Paris, published in Michel Beurdeley, M. Beurdeley, Chinese Trade Porcelain, Rutland, Vermont, 1962, cat.190, p.194. The palette used in the enamelled services decorated in this pattern were particularly popular during France at this time, suggesting that it was a French order and judging by the extensive range of rare and lavish forms, they were probably private orders of considerable importance. Examples from this service are in the Musee Guimet, Paris, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Bordeaux, the Musee de Saint-Omer (from the Dupuis Bequest) and the Musee Grobet Labadit, Marseilles.
