A GOLD-DAMASCENED RETICULATED 'DRAGON' CYLINDRICAL CASE AND COVER Tibet, 15th/16th century Finely cast with sinuous five-claw dragons coiling around the case and cover amongst leafy scrolls. 38.2cm (15in) long. (2). Footnotes: Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價 十五/十六世紀 藏傳鐵鋄金鏤空龍紋信筒 Provenance: Ben Janssens Oriental Art, London 來源： 倫敦古董商 Ben Janssens Oriental Art The design of the present lot is achieved by the technique of wanjin 鋄金. The specific method involves first using a slanted knife to carve lines into the base to roughen the iron. Then, a thin sheet or line of gold is placed on the metal base and hammered so that the back of the gold is deeply embedded into the incised lines on the base. After smoothing and polishing, the surface of the metal forms a smooth and shiny gold or silver decoration. See a related gilt-steel case and cover, 15th/16th century, in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York (acc. no.1992.257.1). See a similar reticulated gilt iron pen case and cover, 16th century, which was sold at Sotheby's London, 8 November 2023, lot 359. Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
