Barbour Re-loved x David Gandy Re-loved Quilted Liddesdale Jacket, Autumn 2024 David Gandy, model and founder of David Gandy Wellwear, has created a driving jacket inspired by the tonneau; a protective cover that fits over the open cockpit of his 1954 Jaguar XK120. David's jacket takes the functionality of the tonneau concept and reimagines it into a stylish cape effect coat. A tonneau 'cape' is layered over a liner jacket to create the ultimate driving jacket. The design is perfect for those days when you're driving with the sun shining, the roof down, the wind in your face and the open road ahead of you. 'When tasked with a design for Barbour's iconic Liddesdale Jacket I based it entirely on uniqueness; I wanted a truly one-of-a-kind design that I had never seen before. The idea came when I was unclipping the tonneau (the protective cover) off of my classic 1954 Jaguar XK120. When driving you are open to the elements and the tonneau is stored away. So I thought about a versatile jacket design whereby you could simply fasten a protective cover, or cloak, over the inner Barbour you are already wearing when you are driving to protect yourself from the elements. Then when you stop driving, you unfasten the cloak in the same moment you reattach the tonneau to the car.' Size Medium Footnotes: Barbour Celebrates An Icon: 30 years of the Liddesdale Jacket ● Autumn Winter 24 marks 30 years of Barbour's iconic Liddesdale Jacket. Designed and launched by Dame Margaret Barbour in 1994, it's become a bestselling icon in countryside and city alike – worn by everyone from royalty to rock stars, shepherds to bankers. ● 12 vintage quilted jackets have been lovingly re-designed and re-purposed by friends of the brand. These very special quilts are being auctioned off for charity, with all profits going to The Royal Countryside Fund. 'In 1994, there had already been a small number of quilts in the range. But it was the Liddesdale, with its distinctive lightweight diamond outer, capacious pockets and cord collar that really caught the attention of our customers. The Liddesdale is such a practical jacket – ideal for spring and autumn when the weather begins to change. I originally brought the Liddesdale in as a country jacket, but I knew very quickly it would also become popular in the city because of its versatility – it can be worn anywhere. I am very proud it continues to be a bestseller 30 years on.' – Dame Margaret Barbour, Chairman. Named after the Liddesdale Valley in the Scottish borders where Barbour holds its roots, the jacket is synonymous with effortless British style and trusted, quality craftsmanship. Originally created with horse riding in mind, its lightweight versatility is worn and loved by everyone from all walks of life – working just as well over a suit as it does over wellington boots.
