A Rare Officer's Basket-Hilted Backsword Late 18th Century With tapering blade double-edged over a third of its length to the point (some old pitting) and fullered over its entire length over each side with a narrow fuller bordering it along the back, the forte with three short fullers on both sides, one side etched with crowned 'GRIII' cypher above foliage, and with crowned Hanoverian horse above foliage on the other, iron guard of rounded profusely punched and border engraved bars incorporating an integral cross potent between arrow-heads on both sides, one side with an oval aperture for reins, fore-guards, wrist-guard with button terminal, segmented bun-shaped pommel surmounted by a terminal and button en suite, spirally-grooved fishskin-covered wooden grip (fishskin incomplete) bound with copper wire between copper Turk's heads, and remains of a buff-leather liner (some old rust patination) 97.7 cm. blade This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
