A 14-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun By John Manton, London, No. 5402 For 1810 Reconverted from percussion, with two-stage Spanish barrel swamped towards the muzzle and with silver spider fore-sight, turned girdle chiselled with a band of foliage against a gold ground, octagonal breech (some pitting) inlaid with engraved scrolling silver foliage and two gold-lined punzónes of Gaspar Y Rusta of Eibar (Neue Støckel 960, 961) between three gold-lined fleur-de-lys and surmounted by a gold-lined cross, recessed patent breech with rectangular gold-lined maker's stamp, gold line and large platinum-lined touch-hole, signed border engraved flat lock decorated with a prone gun dog in a landscape on the tail, figured half-stock with cheekpiece, chequered grip and horn fore-end cap, border engraved steel mounts comprising butt-plate decorated with a gun dog in a landscape on the heel (some pitting), serial numbered trigger-guard with two game birds in a landscape on the bow and with pineapple finial, silver barrel-bolt escutcheons, and brass-tipped ramrod 91.5 cm. barrel Footnotes: Provenance Sold in these Rooms, Antique Arms, Armour & Modern Sporting Guns, 23 May 2018, lot 415 The Penrose Collection For the gold-lined fleur-de-lys marks see W. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
