A rare two day marine chronometer Signed John Poole, London, No.5179 The (replacement) three part case with vacant cartouche to the top lid and painted characters translating as 'Land Survey Department', mid section with blank cartouche, the lower with recessed handles and twin contact points, the> 3.75' silvered dial with minute track and Roman numerals, power reserve below XII marked in 6 hour increments to 54, the running seconds dial overlapping VI, signed in black John Poole, MAKER TO THE ADMIRALTY, 57 Fenchurch St, London, 5179 and in red THE GOLD MEDAL PARIS 1867/C&J FAVRE-BRANDT YOKOHAMA - OSAKA/PRIZE MEDALS LONDON 1862, PARIS 1855 , the chain fusee movement with free sprung blued steel helical spring to a cut and compensated bimetallic balance with Poole's auxiliary compensation, the Earnshaw type detent escapement with maintaining power, the whole suspended in the numbered gimballed bowl with locking lever, together with a later winding key and a case key, 18cms wide This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
