OMEGA. AN 18K GOLD AUTOMATIC CALENDAR BRACELET WATCH Model: Constellation Date: c. 1960s Movement: 24-jewel automatic, No. 23938071 Dial: Champagne Case: Round, screw down back, No. 4685470, 396749 Strap/Bracelet: 18k gold mesh Buckle/Clasp: 18K gold folding clasp Signed: Case, dial, movement and clasp Size: 36mm Accompaniments: None Footnotes: The Omega Constellation was first introduced in 1952 to meet the demand for an automatic chronometer watch. This collection symbolized the brand's standard of high precision and accuracy in time, surpassing other timepieces of that era. And unlike other flagship models of the brand, the Constellation had a rich history of aesthetic and design changes, from the classic 'Connie' with arrow hour markers to the present example with the 'Pie-pan' dial and baton markers with onyx inlay, and the flat dial with the four screw claws as seen in the 1982 Manhattan model. The current example features the hallmark of the eight stars and observatory emblazoned on the case, representing the numerous chronometer records that Omega earned between 1933 and 1952. Specifically, two of these records set world records for precision at the Kew-Tedding Observatory in 1933 and 1936. Additionally, there are ALD markings stamped on the case back, indicating it was locally made by Dennison for the UK market. This vintage Constellation is a highly compelling choice for collectors considering their first precious metal Omega or looking to expand their vintage watch collection.
