While on tour, a dinner at the White House was arranged in the royal couple's honour, so this was added to their itinerary. The dinner, hosted by President Lyndon B. Johnson (1908 - 1973) and First Lady Claudia Alta 'Lady Bird' Johnson (1912 - 2007), was hailed as a great success.
