A Great War Military cross and bar engraved Major D.J. Mearns Military Cross, G.V.R., with bar engraved to the rear 'Major D Mearns', cased ; together with a replacement 1914-15 Star (1724 LCPL D.J Mearns L Pool R R); replacement British War and Victory Medal (Capt D. J Mearns L'Pool R R) and corresponding miniatures; Defence Medal; War Medal, plus a quantity of related documents and photographs including fibre and aluminium ID tags, etc. Footnotes: Major David James Mearns 1896-1967 Enlisted 9th Bn L'Pool Regt 1914 served as PTE Feb 1915- Dec 1916 in France Commissioned 2/lt 30/12/1916 5th BN Liverpool Regiment T.E Transferred to 2/4th S. Lancs Regt 14 September 1917 August 1 1917 raided German lines and was awarded the Military Cross 'For Conspicuous Gallantry and devotion to duty during a successful raid upon the enemy's trenches. He led his party with the utmost fearlessness and skill, in the face of severe opposition remained on the enemy parapet throughout the entire operation in spite of a heavy hostile barrage, and showing utter disregards for personal safety. It was owing to his skilful handling that the party was extricated with very few causalities' Promoted Lt. 26/6/1918 Promoted Captain 16/7/1918 1918 Awarded Bar to Military cross 'For conspicuous gallery and resource. He led his company with great dash and determination under heavy fire and captured a village. When his flank became exposed, he showed great skill and initiative in organising a position on the edge of the village which he held until relieved. Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
