PINOCCHIO (2022) - Set of Pinocchio (Gregory Mann) Stop-Motion Heads in Display - A display containing a set of Pinocchio (Gregory Mann) stop-motion heads from Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson's Oscar-winning stop-motion musical adventure Pinocchio. The look of Del Toro and Gustafson's Pinocchio was inspired by the illustrations of Gris Grimley in a 2002 edition of Carlo Collodi's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio, on which the film is loosely based, despite its 1930s setting.During the production, animation studio ShadowMachine 3D-printed approximately 3,000 Pinocchio heads, including over 800 of the wooden boy smiling, 50 of him yelling, and nine of him dead. Such a vast number were manufactured to sustain the process of replacement animation, which involves changing a puppet's head whenever its expression changes. This set of heads remains in its original storage container, a pizza-style cardboard box displayed inside a vitrine. While some of the container's head spaces are vacant, they still feature handwritten labels indicating which type of head was to be placed there. This set was displayed at New York's Museum of Modern Art for the "Guillermo Del Toro: Crafting Pinocchio" exhibition, which ran from 11 December 2022 to 15 April 2023. Dimensions: 76.25 cm x 57 cm x 9.25 cm (30" x 22.5" x 3.75")Estimate: £7,500 - 15,000 †ΔBidding for this lot will end on Thursday, November 14th. A 19th Century French kingwood and marquetry inlaid vitrine in the Louis XV taste, with all over gilt brass embellishments, with caddy top over a serpentine fronted glazed door, flanked by two glazed side panels enclosing a glass shelf, over a fall front secretaire cabinet/writing surface, with recess over four small drawers, raised on splayed square tapered cabriole supports, capped by ram's heads, on hoof feet, 82 cm wide x approx 43 cm deep x 174 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Missing one shelf.
