A fine quality French walnut and marquetry inlaid vitrine cabinet, circa 1900, the marble top having a pierced brass gallery, central frieze drawer with inlaid floral marquetry frieze, central glazed panelled door flanked by bow-glass end panels, allover ormolu mouldings and mounts, width 96cm, depth 36cm, height 99cmGood original condition with very minor age-related flaws and blemishes, all ormolu mounts present and in good conditionThere are no signs of woodworm on this piece. There is one small chip to the rear left of the marble top and a corner crack on the rear right. Otherwise there are only natural flaws. A small section of the brass inlay is missing (Pineapple) to the left side of the door below the lock. All four feet appear to have been removed/broken at some point and repaired with a few small veneer flakes still apparent. Overall still in very good condition.

Romisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseum Mainz (RGZM), Das Reich der Salier, 1024-1125, Sigmaringen, 1992, pp.86-87, fig.33b, Vitrine 14, for similar spur. 52 grams, 12 cm (4 3/4 in.). The spur belongs to Western specimens of the 12th century, with more or less strongly curved spurs and short, strong, lowered spikes, whereby the majority of the spurs already have loops instead of rivet plates.From the collection of the famous author, writer and speaker, Gordon Bailey, Essex, UK; formed since 1968.
