A 19th century American walnut patent Wooton secretaire desk, with a bird's eye maple fitted interior, enclosed by a pair of hinged doors. This style of desk is native to Indiana, America and is named after the designer, entrepreneur William S Wooton, who patented this particular model with pigeon holes. It was produced from 1874 to 1890, to accommodate the new need for increased hand filing, before being superseded by the typewriter at the turn of the century. 104w x 68d x 172h cm
