La Caricature politique, morale, religieuse, litteraire et scenique, edited by Charles Philipon, 251 issues (all published) in 4 vol. and loose as issued, 453 plates numbered to 524 (double sheets numbered as 2) including 104 hand-coloured, many folding or double-sheet, 1 triple sheet, 5 with flaps or movable panels, by Daumier, Grandville, Travies, Descamps, Monnier and others, with a folding mock theatre poster, letterpress on pink paper, a few of the folding plates with short tears on folds, no.196 (text and 2 plates) omitted by the binder and loosely inserted, these with short tears to fore-edges, text leaves lightly browned as usual, occasional spotting and other minor defects but generally in very good condition, contemporary half green calf, spines gilt, a little rubbed, Donaueschingen Library stamps on first title or endpaper of each vol., 4to (issues 1-216 in 4 vol.), remainder loose as issued in a contemporary marbled portfolio with ties, folio, Paris, 1830-35. *** Copies vary as to plate count depending on how the plates are joined. This set is believed to be complete, but as a periodical it is sold, as usual, not subject to return.
