WW2 Lieutenant Othmar Hermes KC youngest KC winner at 19 signed 6x4 inch black and white photo. During the German relief of Kovel in April 1944, the 6./Grenadier-Regiment 464 formed the spearhead of the German effort to capture a commanding hill in the middle of the rough terrain within the Turja sector, southwest of Kovel. The capture of this hill from the Soviets was crucial for the continued advance to the trapped defenders of the city. However the German attack ground to a halt due to heavy and effective Soviet blocking fire from well-camouflaged Soviet MG and mortar positions. As a result the communication links even within the Kompanie, as well as to the neighbouring Kompanien, were broken. The Soviets now launched their own counterthrust in an attempt to decisively swing the battle in their favour. In this critical situation Gefreiter Hermes decided to finally storm the hill with a few bold comrades from the Kompanie headquarters. The Soviet positions and MG nests were eliminated in close combat, and the hill was held against subsequent Soviet attempts to retake it. As the hill was currently under fire from both Soviet and German artillery, and no radio contact was available, Hermes fired a red signal flare that alerted the German units to the fact that the hill had been taken. However immediately afterwards he and his comrades received severe wounds from shell splinters, with Hermes himself losing his right arm. However by now the rest of the Kompanie had come to reinforce the defenders on the hill, and the wounded men were evacuated from the battle. In recognition of his independently conducted and heroic actions, which significantly assisted the German relief effort at great personal cost, Hermes would be decorated with the Iron Cross First Class and later the Knight's Cross. At the time of his award he was, at 19 years old, the youngest Knight's Cross Holder in the entire Wehrmacht. Good condition. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. each of octagonal form painted with the arms of Skinner, within a gilt spearhead border, the rim with a garland of famille rose flowers 22.5cm wide Note: The ancestors of the Skinner family brought their name to England in the wave of migration after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The name Skinner is for a skinner. The name was originally derived from the Old Norse word skinn, meaning hide, and indicates that the original bearer was employed in the trade of removing animal hides. As to underscore the significance of this trade name, "The Skinners' Company in London received their charter of incorporation so early as the first year of Edward II. " 2 Reader's note: King Edward II reigned from 1307 to 1327. Like many of these early entries, this would note that the registration occurred during the first year of King Edward's reign. The surname Skinner was first found in Lincolnshire, England, where Sir Robert Skynner, a Norman knight received from Duke William the lands of Bolinbroke, accompanied with the hand in marriage of the daughter of their former owner, Robert de Bolinbroke, of the Saxon race. In the year 1070 the issue of this relationship intermarried with many distinguished houses until the chief branch became extinct in the year 1700. Reference - HouseOfNames website. A multi award-winning tribute to the legendary WRC car, magazine-featured and supplied with a huge history file, both Ford and RS wallets, service book and the well deserved trophies. The legendary Colin McRae came from a family dedicated to rallying and who collectively have achieved many outright rally wins and rally championship wins at all levels. Son of five-time British rally champion, Jimmy, and brother to rally driver, Alistair, Colin went on to win the British Rally Championship in 1991 and 1992 before being signed by Prodrive to spearhead their challenge in the World Rally Championship from 1993. He was amazingly successful at this senior level, going on to win the World Rally Championship outright in 1995 for Subaru and Prodrive.Always known for his fully committed approach, he was a risk taker and a superb driver to watch. No less so than in 2001, when driving the famous Focus RS, Y4 FMC, for the official Ford World Rally team, he won the Argentina, Cyprus and the Greek Acropolis rallies with Nicky Grist co-driving. By the end of that season, following a strong second place in New Zealand, they were both poised to win the World Championship again. It was a real head to head with his arch rival, Richard Burns, driving for Subaru and Colin in the Focus representing Ford in the 2001 British round of the WRC, the 'Network Q' Rally of Great Britain.Never one to consider championship caution, Colin drove Y4 FMC flat out and heading Richard and leading the rally outright as they went into SS4 (Rhonda 1). Unfortunately, such was his pace that he was launched in to a spectacular series of barrel roles (sufficiently impressive to make the nine o’clock news that night!) and handed both the rally and overall championship win to his arch rival, Richard Burns (Colin was pipped for the championship by just two points by Richard). The Focus, with its Martini livery, became a legend. So much so, that this multiple award-winning car was cosmetically modified in 2008 in tribute. Registered on 1st September 2003, the car underwent exhaustive concours-level works that finished with a documented respray in Diamond White on 7th July 2008. With the interior kept largely standard, the car’s condition earned it multiple awards, as displayed, and these awards are included in the sale. Presented to auction with an advisory-free MOT Certificate from July this year at 79,027 miles, the detailed history file includes reams of receipts, awards and both keys.Specification Make: FORD Model: FOCUS RS Year: 2003 Chassis Number: WF0BXXGCDB3S74867 Registration Number: RS02 DAR Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 3S74867 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 78500 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: Black/GreyClick here for more details and images
