Lot 124

Registration No: AGC 496 Chassis No: GAW 36 MOT: ExemptSupplied with a healthy history files with chassis cards, invoices for maintenance and moreDescribed as 'a well-maintained' example with matching chassis and engine numbersFeatured in Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club Magazine - 1978 and 1991Subject to an extensive engine overhaulThe Rolls-Royce 20/25 was built between 1929 and 1936 and succeeded the 20hp as Rolls-Royce's "small car". It was intended to appeal to owner drivers, but many were sold to customers with chauffeurs. The in-line 6-cylinder overhead valve engine was similar to that used in the 20hp but was enlarged to 3699cc by increasing the bore from 76mm to 82mm with the stroke remaining at 114mm. A single Rolls-Royce carburettor was used and both coil and magneto ignitions were fitted. The four-speed gearbox was mounted in unit with the engine and a traditional right hand change used. Synchromesh was fitted to third and top gears from 1932. The substantial chassis had rigid front and rear axles suspended by half elliptic springs with braking on all four wheels assisted by a mechanical servo. Separate rear brakes were fitted for the handbrake. The famous Rolls-Royce radiator with triangular top was used with vertical louvres, the angle of which could be adjusted to control engine cooling. To begin with, the radiator shutters were operated manually via a lever on the dash with later cars fitted with automatic control via a thermostat. The larger engine allowed the top speed to increase to but many owners had large limousine bodies fitted to the chassis with the predictable decline in performance. As far back as the 1880’s, Thrupp & Maberly began its move from making horse-drawn carriages to car bodies. By the spring of 1897, Thrupp & Maberly held the British licence for the Duryea Motor Wagon. More commissions followed and the business grew, leading to large numbers of bodies for staff cars being made during World War I. After the war, Thrupp & Maberly produced a range of bespoke bodies for up-market British and European marques and in 1924, they moved to new premises in Cricklewood, London, but kept a showroom in North Audley Street which in 1925, was bought by the Rootes brothers. Thrupp & Maberly remained a prestige coachbuilder, concentrating on luxury bodies for Rolls-Royce, Daimler and Bentley automobiles and in 1929, they built the body for Sir Henry Segrave's land speed record car, the Golden Arrow.Known as ‘Lady Primrose’, this is a 1932 Rolls Royce D-Back Limousine with coachwork by Thrupp & Maberly. A delightful example of early ‘30s luxury motoring it is said to have been 'well-maintained' with matching chassis and engine numbers. It has featured in the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club Magazine 1978 and 1991. Purchased by the current owner in 2021 it has since received an engine overhaul including new white-metal bearings and a balanced crankshaft assembly. A new aluminium cylinder head is also present, accompanying a recently rebuilt water pump and Calorstat. It also benefits from the addition of an over-drive fitted by Ben Smith Restorations. Ben Smith has looked after maintenance for many years and in this time has compiled several reports, including a large photo album of restoration.A regular participant of overseas trips, many with the RREC, before 1997 the Limousine resided on Guernsey. It was here that the Primrose Yellow coachwork was acquired, together with some additional restoration work also detailed in the file. The 'occasional seats' were also removed and a drinks cabinet fabricated, however, the seats are included in the sale. The interior is very tidy, with the fawn cloth to the rear seat and headlining in almost excellent condition. Sound deadening has also been added under the carpets. Tools also included are for the removal and refitting of the Ace wheel discs, the wheel hub spanner and jack. The large Lucas P100 head lamps with foot operated dipping solenoids are fitted and calibrated with modern improved halogen bulbs to aid night driving whilst the side lights use an MG B hazard repeater, utilising them as indicators, as well as the working trafficators. Floating along on soft suspension, this is a car to be used and enjoyed. Supplied with a V5C, a healthy history file – including journey logs, chassis cards, invoices for maintenance, extensive restoration and engine overhaul documentation, copies of the magazines in which it has featured and the 'occasional seats'. A well presented MkI racer, previously campaigned at Goodwood, and ready to race again. While officially never called ‘MkI’, this 1950s Jaguar model spearheaded the iconic British company into the ever-growing small luxury car market at the time. In production between 1955 – 1959, these sporting saloons were officially entitled the 'Jaguar 2.4 Litre' and '3.4-Litre', not Jaguar’s finest model naming, however this didn’t stop the later affectionately named MkI, from becoming a piece of influential engineering that helped shape the company’s future.Factory-supplied with the bulletproof 2.4-litre XK120’s twin-cam straight SIX, providing 112bhp, an impressive figure of the time, Jaguar introduced a more powerful version in 1957, the 3.4-Litre  boosting performance to a sporty 210bhp, pushing the 0-60 from 11.2 seconds to a spritely 9.1 seconds. These powerful 3.4 saloons quickly became prime contenders for circuit racing.A natural track car, the MkI came to dominate saloon car racing at the time, competing successfully in countless rallies, touring car championships and club saloon racing, attracting notable masters behind the wheel including Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Tommy Sopwith and Roy Salvadori. This highly successful and very well-known 1958 Jaguar MkI Competition Car was built and driven successfully by the late Les Ely, a very experienced classic car racer, closely associated with the Jaguar fraternity as a driver and engineer. It's an original UK-supplied, right-hand drive car, finished in the wonderful colour combination of Maroon with a red leather interior, it really looks the part. The car is beautifully built and prepared and subject obviously to pre-season fettling, spanner checks etc. is all but track-ready with the 3.4-litre XK engine producing a proven 273bhp and the interior being modified in true race car fashion with the addition of bucket seats, roll cage, fire extinguisher, safety equipment and various weight-saving measures. Our vendor purchased the car a few years ago with the intention of going historic racing, but after a couple of track-days and a few nerve-racking moments, he realised that racing wasn’t going to be for him and so the car is set to find its next home. We understand, but interested parties should make their own enquiries, that the car is eligible for a plethora of races across Europe, having previously raced at Goodwood Members Meeting in the Sopwith Cup, including the Mike Hawthorn Jaguar Challenge Series and other prestigious events such as the Goodwood Revival, Spa and the Le Mans Classic. This is a well-built, professionally prepared, competitive MkI racer and would make a great entry into the friendly world of Classic Saloon Car racing. Specification Make: JAGUAR Model: MK1 3.4 COMPETITION CAR Year: 1957 Chassis Number: 5973191BW Registration Number: OFR 315 Transmission: Manual Engine Number: KE.80001-8 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHD Interior Colour: Red LeatherClick here for more details and images

Lot 304

This little 1,584cc Fulvia HF (now registered as a Rallye HF) would make a perfect first time entry into the world of historic rallies. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, Lancia’s little Fulvia was as intriguing and ambitious as it was innovative, swapping rear-wheel drive for a more advanced front-wheel drive, embracing Lancia's DOHC V4 engine. Starting with a modest 57bhp but evolving to a sturdy 130bhp, its variants, especially the Coupés, gained fame for their rallying prowess. An undeniably underappreciated icon in the history books of Italian automotive successes. The Fulvia marked Lancia’s glorious and victorious return to motorsport, carving a niche in the rallying scene, paving the way for an era of dominance in the World Rally Championship far from the spotlight hogged by its successors – the Stratos, O37 and Delta Integrale. It is often forgotten that it was the Fulvia that earned the distinction of winning Lancia's first World Rally title in 1972.This particular Fulvia was rebuilt as a rally car in 2017 having started its life as a standard 1.3 (1,300cc). It's now powered by a 1,600cc engine fitted with twin-Weber 45 carbs, work-spec cams, Arrow conrods, a balanced crank, Mangoletsi intake manifold and carburettor linkage and a 'Group 4' manifold/free-flow exhaust, recently set up and dyno-tested by Stanton Motorsports. It's a Fulvia HF body (steel construction with aluminium bonnet, boot, and doors) registered as a Rallye HF. The interior is as basic as one would expect, stripped back to save weight and fitted with a roll cage, two Recaro bucket seats, racing harnesses and fire extinguishers.Upon its conversion to rally-spec, the car was maintained by its owner's in-house mechanic, who carried out all repairs, modifications, servicing and pre-event spanner checks. Recent work included stripping the engine and gearbox for check-overs and refurbing with fresh gaskets.Cosmetically, as is to be expected with a competition car, there are some dents and imperfections, however there are no major sightings of rust except for some light surface tarnishing where the paint has chipped.Lancia-based rally cars have traditionally been expensive, however this little Fulvia seems like tremendous value. It’s a well raced and ready-to-go example of Lancia's legendary rally car.Specification Make: LANCIA Model: FULVIA RALLYE HF Year: 1968 Chassis Number: 81833112492 Registration Number: TBL 82G Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 8185402286651 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 68389 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 326

**Saleroom Notice - Please note there is an element of finishing work required to the radiator, driveshafts and oil system. Because of this the estimate has been lowered to £17,000 - £20,000. Required parts are included in the sale.** An historically significant car, one of the very first, freshly rebuilt and HSCC-eligible. Formula Ford 1600 has pride of place as the world’s most successful single seater formula. The brainchild of Walter Hayes, Ford’s Marketing Director who saw the potential of using a blueprinted 1,600cc Kent engine mated to a thoroughbred single seater to create the ultimate level playing field for emerging talent. The rules were simple, tubular space frame chassis (from any manufacturer), four gears, control tyres and steel brakes. The result took the world by storm and the formula counts names such as Senna, Schumacher, Fittipaldi, Hakkinen, Button, Räikkönen and Hill among its alumni. Founded by Alex Francis and Bill Harris, Alexis first made an impact in Formula Junior racing in the early 1960s, building cars for its in-house Team Alexis, however, their decision to become involved with Formula Ford was the right one, proving an outstanding success both competitively and commercially. The firm’s first FF design was the 'Russell-Alexis' (retrospectively known as the Mk14) following a deal struck to supply cars for the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School, hence the name. The first Formula Ford race was held at Brands Hatch on 2nd July 1967 and the Alexis Mk14 went on to win more races in the following 12 months than any other contender, comfortably eclipsing its main rival, the Lotus 51. The Russell-Alexis evolved into the Alexis Mk15 late in 1968 and this model was the firm’s frontline FF contender for the 1969 season. This beautiful Mk15 is eligible for HSCC’s ever-popular Historic FF1600 championship and is offered fresh from a substantial rebuild by Iain Rowley at Delta Motorsport to a high standard. No stone went unturned in the car’s reconstruction which now boasts a zero miles Barnett engine and a zero miles refreshed Hewland Mk8 gearbox with new input shaft. Meanwhile the chassis has been freshly powder-coated and bodywork all resprayed to a high standard. Brand new dampers and springs take care of the suspension, which also features all new rose-joints and bearings. Additionally, the following are all new: drive shafts, instruments, extinguisher, belts, wheels & tyres, brake callipers and pads, exhaust, brake and clutch lines, clutch release bearing, master cylinders and the battery.Professionally prepared and beautifully presented, this little Alexis is offered 'on the button' and after a spanner check, ready to race. Competitive in class in Historic FF, it would also be fun for an occasional day at Shelsley or Prescott.SpecificationMake: ALEXISModel: MK15Year: 1968Chassis Number: TBCRegistration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualClick here for more details and images
