A reel of Ampex 456 audio tape, containing a 24track recording with studio recordings of David Bowie laying down vocals and other parts for a version of what would later be released as 'Pretty Pink Rose' by Adrian Belew though this recording does not feature any involvement by Adrian Belew. Also Bowie vocals and other parts for an unreleased/unpublished song - with 'Lucille' lyric refrain, featuring Mick Ronson on guitar. Also contains recordings of Bowie recording a version of Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone'. Tape bears handwritten notes 'David Bowie Safety of Slave Reel' and then in a second hand '+ Mick Ronson GTR + 00Cal master'. The version of 'Pretty Pink Rose' is different to the released version, the 'Lucille' track has never previously been published and it is likely that the recording of 'Like a Rolling Stone' differs also from the released version. This item is sold as an artefact only, without copyright. Andy Warhol (American 1928-1987) & Richard Bernstein (American 1939-2002),Dana Gillespie, friend of David Bowie, proposed portrait for her album cover 'Ain't gonna play no second fiddle', 1972;screenprint in colours on canvas, with additions of spray paint and hand painted areas, indistinctly inscribed 'Richard Bernstein' (in pencil on the stretcher), size: 48 x 48 cm, (unframed)Note: This work was created by Warhol and Richard Bernstein as a possible design for the album cover for 'Ain't gonna play no second fiddle' by Dana Gillespie. The photo on which the silkscreen was based was shot by Terry O'Neill the famous celebrity photographer. Bowie and Dana Gillespie had the same manager and Bowie had written a song for Dana called 'Andy Warhol' which Gillespie recorded on her album 'Weren't born a man' in 1973. Bowie produced Gillespie's version of the song and Mick Ronson played guitar. Bowie and Dana asked Warhol to do a cover design for the album 'Ain't gonna play no second fiddle'. The design was created at the Warhol factory in New York in 1972, probably in collaboration with Richard Bernstein, along with another portrait of Dana Gillespie. Dana collected the work herself from Warhol's factory in 1972. RCA records in the end used another version of this portrait for the album cover, which is still owned by Gillespie. Richard Bernstein was a pop artist befriended by Warhol and produced most of the 'Interview' magazine covers for Warhol. He is known to have been close to Warhol and owned each others artworks.Provenance: Dana Gillespie | Private Collection (Gillespie's friend)
