The Oyster name had already been utilised under Rolex to great success, and Wilsdorf evidently decided to create a new watch company using the same name but completely separate from his premium Rolex brand. Using similar Swiss movements and waterproofing features patented by Rolex, there was inevitable confusion between the two brands although Oyster were made to a lower price point.
