Publisher's binding of full dark brown morocco over wooden boards, rectangular bronze bas-relief 'Hamlet's Dilemma' by Moore to upper board, uncut, complete with original vertical cut-out suede-covered stand. Provenance: Ettore Greco Scribani (metal bookplate). EXCEPTIONALLY FINE COPY OF THIS RARE MOORE ILLUSTRATED SHAKESPEARE. The bas-relief bronze on the upper cover is a recasting of the 'Reclining Figure' portion of 'Relief: Three Quarters Mother and Child and Reclining Figure', 1977 (cf. A. Bowness, Henry Moore - Complete Sculpture, Volume 5 1974-1980, 1983; listed and illustrated as catalogue raisonnée no. 728). Number 520 of 1200 copies, although it is very probable that this limitation is grossly exaggerated. An early Victorian sculpted white Carrera marble group of two children entitled ‘the Travellers‘, by Felix Martin Miller, dated 1846, both figures classically draped, the boy with his left arm around the shoulder of the stooping girl, his right and her left hand clasped in front, a stela behind with a relief carved veiled face and draped with a wreath, inscribed F.M.MILLER SCULPT. 1846, 132.5cm high, 57cm wide. Felix Martin Miller was born in 1820 in London and joined the Royal Academy Schools in 1842. He exhibited at the Royal Academy 1842-1880 and at the Great Exhibition in 1851. Purchased by the current owners at Sotheby’s Belgravia sale of Sculpture, 25th March 1981, lot 60, and now offered with the relevant sale catalogue.

NB Sophie Dickens is a contemporary sculptor based in London. She won the Owen-Rowley Sculpture Prize in 1991 and the Founders` Award Sculpture Prize at the V and A in 2007, and she has had numerous one-woman exhibitions and commissions including an installation this year at Woburn Abbey.
Edouard Lantéri(1848-1917) , A White marble relief panel of Andrew Carnegie`s wife Louise Whitfield Carnegie and daughter Margaret , (marble 92x74cm) set within a carved mahogany overmantle surround (198x165cm), Provenance Ex. Skibo Castle, Sutherland , Edouard Lantéri born the 1st November 1848 in Auxerre, France. The sculptor studied at the school of Fine Arts under Guillaume and Cavelier. In 1872 he moved to London and assisted Joseph Edgar Boehn in his studio. In 1880 he taught at The South Kensington Arts Schools. In 1900 he took the position of the college`s first Professor of Modelling (1900-10) . Lantéri was involved with architectural and decorative sculpture for the Victorian and Albert museum. In later life he wrote about the composition of human and animal art, explaining the practice. The forward to the first book was by Auguste Rodin
Helge Eskild, Danish b.1922- Sunset; mixed technique on board, signed, inscribed and dated 67, 42x24cm: together with two other related studies in mixed technique on board, both signed, 47x20 and 48.7x22cm., (3). Note: Helge Eskild, b.1922, Danish painter, sculptor and graphic artist, pupil of Folmer Bonnén. From figural composing through an impressionistic period, especially with city compositions and later more abstractly composed forest paintings, Eskild has reached a purely non figural style in his paintings, partly in glowing colourization, partly in blue grey tones. His progression as an experimental artist can be seen in his sculpture in stone, wood, copper and decorative works like the enamel relief works made in cooperation with the enamel artist Sophie Eskild. Ellen Mary Rope (1855-1934) "The Nativity", polychrome plaster relief panel, 33cm by 58cm. This plaque was exhibited at The Williamson Art Gallery & Museum and H Blairman & Sons Ltd, 1997, catalogue No.48. Ellen Mary Rope was born into a large family at Grove Farm, Blaxhall, Suffolk. She studied drawing with philanthropist reformer Octavia Hill and at Ipswich School of Art. She became interested in sculpture while at the Slade School at University College London. She participated in the Arts & Crafts Society Exhibitions and began designing decorative arts for Della Robbia Pottery, Birkenhead from 1896.
A Gyula Meszes-Toth bronze medallion circa 1991 titled ‘the horrible acts of Stalinism: 1952 (to the memory of my younger brother)’, the relief design depicting a prison cell and a man in gallows and a shadow of Stalin to the background, 11.5cm. This medal was exhibited at the British Museum in 1999, the exhibition entitled ‘Size Immeterial Handheld Sculpture of the 1990’s.
A Chinese bowl decorated with incised flowers against a white ground, a paper label to the base reads 'R.M.C Sung Dynasty 960-1280 A.D.', 21.5 cm diameter and a Chinese stoneware sculpture modelled as a deity, Japanese twin handled pot, relief moulded with crabs, a clay tea bowl and a small dark blue glazed vase. From 1911 he worked at the Georg Jensen Silversmithy and was the assistant director from 1926-54.

A pearwood carving of a dead bird, modelled hanging from a nailed string, with a fly on the body, signed, 8.25 x 5.5in (21 x 14cm) to a leaf and dart ormolu slip to concave moulded framed border, glazed, 12.5 x 9.75in (32 x 25cm.) Literature: Vivian, Margaret. Antique Collecting. Possibly purchased from the Le Carpentier sale in Paris, 14 May - 1 June 1866, lot 181 described as 'Un oiseau mort, suspendu par une patte. Tres-jolie sculpture en haut relief, par Demontreuil. Dans un cadre carr, en bois sculpt.' 'Demontreuil enjoyed the patronage of Louis XVI and Marie Antionette, and the fame of his skill as a carver, especially of birds, reached other countries. This bird, one of the latest if not the last of of his productions, was executed at Madrid for a cardinal. At the death of the cardinal, the chef d'oeuvre passed to some relatives, a Franco-Spanish family, who prized it so highly that on one occasion they refused 50,000 frs. for it...' an extract of an article from The Times, 7th June 1881. ERIC GILL ST MARTIN OF TOURS RELIEF patinated bronze relief panel, cast inscription 'St Martin/ Pray/ For Us' 45cm x 39cm Literature: Judith Collins, 'Eric Gill: the Sculpture', London 1998, pl. 249, pp 195-6 Note; This relief panel was originally commissioned in stone for Campion Hall Brewer Street Oxford in 1935, and executed from September - October of that year. The new building was designed by Edwin Lutyens and the plaque was unveiled on Armistice Day, 11th November 1935. A cast of the finished work was presumably taken at this time. In this relief St Martin has dismounted from his horse and is depicted in the act of tearing his cloak in half in order to share it with the naked beggar who seeks his help.

(2), The present work is a working drawing for a memorial relief sculpture to the Maharini of Bastar State, commissioned in 1936 by E.S. Hyde, administrator of Bastar. The sculpture was delivered in Jagdalpur, Bastar in 1939.. To be sold together with a sketch of a plinth by the same hand and letters from the sculptor to E.S.Hyde, variously dated between 1936-38.
