This lot includes a variety of loose stamps from various regions around the globe, sheets of unposted mint stamps with gum intact, and several partially complete collector's albums of early American stamps. Switzerland Hotels, Hostels and Mountain Passes Postal history of the Alpine Passes, Hotels and Hostels, a lovely collection written-up on several hundred pages in 14 box-files, with a plethora of postal history of 19th to early 20th century, with superb and elusive postmarks, supported by early postcards, all beautifully presented. By its nature this area of Swiss philately deals with small agencies, seasonal offices with very limited opening, alpine hostels doubling as post offices, etc. Noted very scarce Brünig straight-line tying 5cts sitting Helvetia on cover, superb 1842 Splügen on official entire, 1844 entire from Intra to Altdorf via Gotthard Pass by runner with various rate marks, 'Postablage Furka' box cancel on 10cts card 1883 (closed 1884), 'Maloyaberg' straight-line pmks in blue (2) and black on 5cts cards 1879-82, cds of Hotel 'Gorges du Trient' 1884 on 10cts card, Niesen Hotel post with 'Niesen-Kulm' and 'Wimmis' straight-lines on 1907 potstcard showing the private courier and his donkey, large Rigi file incl. a few hotel stamps, nice sections on the San Bernardino, Santa Maria and Stelvio passes, etc. Many items here purchased individually, often for three-figure sums, with an eye for quality.
