Attributed to James Armstrong (British, 19th century) – Oil on canvas - ‘Greentick’, 54cm x 75cm, in giltwood frameBears handwritten notes to the reverse 'Greentick, Sire of Fullerton, Owned by Mr Garcia' and later handwritten label 'Greentick’ (by Bedfellow out of Heart Burn), weight 64lbs. Sire of Fullerton and Troughend who divided the Waterloo Cup in 1889 for Colonel North. Was also sire of the young Fullerton and Simonian Private collection, Bristol - previously removed from Shortflatt Tower in Northumberland (home of famous greyhound breeder and winner of the Waterloo cup 5 times, Edward Dent), the ancestors having been the owners of these dogs. THE DIARY OF LORD HATHERTON - EDWARD JOHN LITTLETON (1791-1863), a hand written diary between March and June 1851 belonging to Lord Hatherton, detailing his time at Teddesley Hall, Staffordshire and in London with various characters including John Benbow, a 19th century lawyer and politician, together with a handwritten journal recounting a trip to Rome Nov. 1870 - Feb 1871 taken by another family member. There are interesting accounts of the state of various places in France after the Franco-Prussian war and a visit to Mount Vesuvius. There is a third volume which appears to be a transcription of extracts from Lord Hatherton's Journal relating to Teddesley from 1817 to 1863 but it is unfinished containing entries only up until 1820. Note - Lord Hatherton, formerly Edward John Littleton, was one of the area's foremost citizens in the nineteenth century and lived at Teddesley Hall, situated between Penkridge and Cannock. The Hall was the ancestral home of the Littleton family up until its demolition in 1954. The works of Lord Hatherton have been previously published and the majority of volumes are held by the Staffordshire Records Office.
