Measuring 2.4cm high, 9.2cm wide, 5.8cm deep There were many presentation boxes given as gifts to both Russian and foreign dignitaries, made by all the Imperial jewellers, including Fabergé, Ovchinnikov (see lot 319) and Bolin. The most important presentation boxes given by the Romanov family are set with miniatures framed by diamonds, as the example offered here, such jewelled presents reflecting the social standing of the recipient. This box is rare as it has purely engraved decoration, and is not further embellished by Fabergé's typical enamelling.
