Unusual George III Silver Gilt Needle Forceps, possibly by William Eley I & William Fearn, 1804/5, London, forceps with undulating arms to finger rings, the jaws with fenestrated interior – 16.5cm. long, 82g. Note: Mr Jimmy Sandes, founder of the Silver Society, gave these forceps to the vendor in 1981. The vendor believed a similiar example can be seen in the 'Grundy' collection at the Science Museum. A similiar pair was not located at the Science Museum in London nor at the Museum of Medicine and Health, the latter which has a Hull Grundy Collection. Anne Hull Grundy (née Ullman) (1926-1984) was an art historian and a prolific antique collector with interests including ivory objects, jewellery, netsuke and ceramics from the age of 11. The British Museum describes her as ‘one of the most significant collectors of jewellery and a generous benefactor’. She married John Hull Grundy in 1949. John Hull Grundy (1907 – 1984), a true polymath was a draughtsman, artist, anatomist, entomologist, medallist and collector. They gifted much of their collections to British museums.

Agate snuff bottle, chip to the side of the rim and internal bruises, stopper is a little worn on the top Netsuke, small nibbles to the side of the leaf underneath, otherwise seems in generally good order.
