limited edition digital print on paper, signed in silver ink and numbered 64/100, from the Revelations : A Portrait of Magic Series mounted, framed and under glass image size 81cm x 63cm, overall size 101cm x 82cm Note: certificate of authenticity is included with this lot. Note 2: Scottish artist Stuart regularly hits the headlines with his Pop Art paintings. Fusing cartoons with themes of idealism and consumerism, his multilayered artworks blend the past with the present through layers of figurative imagery, text and symbols. His release, Revelations: A Portrait of Magic, depicts the central characters of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. Stuart's McAlpine Miller’s spectral style has been described as ‘supernatural realism’ by the BBC and Radio 2 art critic Estelle Lovatt, who also praised its 4D aesthetic, adding that he has “one of the most creative minds in art today”. Using subtle tones of paint, he creates the illusion of transparency. The overall effect is similar to looking through a glass bottle, distorting the image and presenting a different version of the same subject. In turn, a far-fetched reality is created, highlighting the unrealistic expectations of today’s society. A graduate of the prestigious Glasgow School of Art, Stuart is an admirer of Old Masters such as Caravaggio and Hieronymus Bosch but is particularly inspired by one of the leading exponents of Pop Art, Andy Warhol. Stuart says: “Warhol’s views on mass consumerism and the way he translated these into his art is something I really relate to. I hope my art does something similar and stands the test of time.” Inspired by JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels, Stuart’s Revelations: A Portrait of Magic collection has captured best-loved characters including Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Draco Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange. Stuart says: “The art of illusion and magic reveals itself through the unified bond of the three central characters. As we continue to work in unison, we open the doors to an unimagined future, turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. A new era lies ahead, as yet unrecognised but already awaiting our arrival.” In 2011, Stuart was chosen as artist-in-residence by the world-famous Savoy hotel after its major refurbishment. During his time there, he produced the collection A Time For Reflection: The Savoy Suite, which offered a unique insight into the hotel's patron, including Alfred Hitchcock, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin. This popular release for Castle Fine Art was followed by Lost Lives/Split Personalities, which depicted some of history's most famous musicians including David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Freddie Mercury and George Michael. Music took on a new meaning for Stuart when he began playing the piano seriously. Stuart says: “Music has for me, like many others, greatly influenced my own approach to my art, and the potential it creates within. The emotion that music can reveal allows the listener to transport themselves to a time, a place and a feeling. Art can do the same. We just have to open our minds.” The piano and art took on a new significance for Stuart when he was commissioned by Paul McCartney to paint the piano which he used on his 2004 European Tour. Stuart’s talents also saw him work on several advertising campaigns including Renault, McVities and Virgin; he also painted a triptych of The Alternative Last Supper used as backdrop for the main dining scene in Stephen Berkoff’s 1998 film Decadence. Stuart McAlpine Miller has commissions and collectors around the world, and has exhibited internationally, including Connaught Brown, the Catto Gallery, Kings Road Gallery, Rebecca Hossack Gallery and Duncan Miller in London; Ruth O'Hara and Hoerle-Guggenheim in New York and the SOTA Gallery, Hong Kong, as well as through the Castle Fine Art network of galleries in the UK.

Lady Mackay was the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Inchcape, chairman of the shipping line P&O who also ran Inchape PLC and was director of many other companies. Lucy Mackay was educated in Switzerland, Cambridge and at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh College of Art, 1960–5, under David Talbot Rice and William Gillies, graduating with a master’s honours degree in fine art. In 1973–4 she completed a postgraduate illustration studies year at the Central School of Art and Design. She settled in Edinburgh where she studied advanced botanic illustration at the Royal Botanic Garden, and where as a member of the Scottish Arts Club from 1983 she regularly attended life studies. Mackay began her extensive teaching career in 1966 as art assistant at Edinburgh Academy for Boys; from 1968–76 taught art, design and pottery at schools in the London area; then again in Edinburgh at the Salisbury Centre, 1981–2. In 1999 she joined the register of Angus County’s artists-in-residence for primary schools, serving at several schools. After winning first prize in a portrait painting competition run by the magazine Nursery World, 1953, and exhibiting a prize painting in the Daily Mail competition to celebrate the opening of the Forth Road Bridge, 1964, Mackay took part in many group shows, including the RSA. Among later solo exhibitions were The Italian Institute, Edinburgh, 1991; Torrance Gallery, Edinburgh, 1995, 1998 and 2005; and The Forum, Ocean Terminal, Leith, in aid of the Bethany Trust, 2004. acrylic on board, signed, titled label verso framed and under glass image size 22cm x 22cm, overall size 34cm x 34cm Artist's label verso Note: Gail has always been a fan of unusual and imaginative art. As a child she discovered the paintings of Rodney Matthews and Roger Dean on album covers and posters, and admired their ability to create a whimsical version of ordinary things. At school, Salvador Dali was an artistic influence, and she was lucky enough to get up close to several of his paintings in the MoMA in New York. As a huge music fan, Gail briefly studied sound engineering after deciding she did not want to go to Art school (despite preparing a portfolio). However, she continued to paint while working and raising her two children, and decided to become a self-employed artist in 2011. For artworks where specific locations are featured, Gail uses photographs to help with initial building placement, but will manipulate and change the structures to provide the most pleasing composition. This manipulation is not only helpful when hiding some of the less attractive features of a scene, but allows her to enhance features which might normally be overlooked. Painting on either stretched canvas or canvas board, Gail will usually cover the whole area with a theme colour which dictates the overall mood of the finished piece. She will then sketch in the main features of the painting using pastel pencil, moving the lines with a wet paintbrush until the desired positioning is achieved. The painting is built up from there. Gail's work is exhibited widely at numerous galleries in Scotland.

DAVID GAULD RSA (SCOTTISH 1865 - 1936), TWO CALVES oil on canvas, signedframed and under glassimage size 39cm x 60cm, overall size 48cm x 68cm Note: David Gauld (7 November 1865 - 18 June 1936) was an important Scottish artist who worked in both oils and stained glass and was regarded as being one of the innovators within the Glasgow Boys group. Some of his works, such as St Agnes and Music are seen as precursors of the Art Nouveau movement. His works were seen as having both a Japanese and Pre-Raphaelite influence. Gauld was born in Glasgow and served an apprenticeship as a lithographer and then attended Glasgow School of Art from 1882 to 1885. He came to public notice in the 1880s when he supplied a series of Japanese-influenced pen and ink drawings for the Glasgow Weekly Citizen. Gauld shared the Castlemains Studio in Kirkcudbright with William Stewart MacGeorge and then in later life shared a studio with Harrington Mann at 31 St Vincent Street in Glasgow from 1891 to 1894. During this time he designed stained glass windows for Guthrie and Wells. Gauld then took new premises at 138 West George Street in Glasgow. He also lived at various locations in Kirkcudbright, Glasgow and North Berwick. In 1889 he returned to the Glasgow School of Art and also studied in Paris for a period that year. Like other artists from Glasgow, Gauld spent time at the artist's colony at Grez-sur-Loing in France. Forty-three examples of David Gauld's work are held in the collections of various UK public galleries including Glasgow Museums, The Hunterian, The Scottish National Gallery, Kelvingrove, Gracefield, Paisley, Kirkcaldy and The Fleming Collection (London).
WILLIAM BRADLEY LAMOND RBA (SCOTTISH 1857 - 1924), MAKING BANNOCKS oil on canvas, signed, titled label verso framed image size 36cm x 46cm, overall size 47cm x 55cm Label verso: Forrest McKay, Edinburgh Provenance: Bonhams, Edinburgh, 9th June 2011 lot 167. Note: William Bradley Lamond was born at Newtyle, Angus. He had no formal art training and worked for the Caledonian Railway company for many years. He initially specialised in portraits and later worked on landscapes which have been described as "vigorous impressionistic scenes in oil – with a strong use of colour". He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1906, and exhibited at the Royal Academy (London), Royal Scottish Academy and Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. William Bradley Lamond first publicly exhibited his work at Dunfermline's Fine Art Exhibition in 1883, followed by the Dundee Fine Art Exhibition in 1884. Five years later he showed at the Royal Scottish Academy for the first time with the painting "A Mile Abune Dundee". In 1890 he became one of the founding members of the Dundee Graphic Arts Association and had work shown at Robert Scott's gallery in the city. His first notable commission came the following year – a presentation portrait of Sgt Major Kilgour of the Dundee Highlanders. Around 1894, he hit on one of his most profitable subjects – shore scenes featuring seaweed gatherers at work with horse and cart. He showed one such scene at Scott's which the Evening Telegraph hailed alliteratively as "a brilliant bit of brightsome work". It was soon bought by a local collector and Lamond painted many more variations on the same theme, including "A Breezy Day" (1896). In 1895 he had his most successful year yet, showing at the Glasgow Institute and the RSA and ending with an exhibition of paintings and sketches in his studio at 61 Reform Street. Although Lamond eschewed modern art, his compositions were often regarded as distinctive due to his preference for capturing particular effects rather than selecting subject matter because of its social or symbolic meaning, in contrast to other Dundee painters such as John Duncan or Stewart Carmichael. In 1898, 60 of his paintings were auctioned by William Fyfe at the City Assembly Rooms, fetching prices of up to 19 guineas. In 1900 he showed at the Royal Academy (London) for the first time and soon began to cultivate a London audience. In 1902 he opened his first one-man show in London, at Clifford's Gallery in Haymarket. Although many Dundee illustrators and cartoonists had enjoyed success in London (such as Martin Alexander and Max Cowper), the city's painters had rarely made such an impact in the capital. Lamond returned to London in 1903 to undertake a number of commissions and later that year was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists, recognised as "a painter of strength, with a true eye for colour harmonies and a special aptitude for interpreting the beauties of northern landscape and coast scenery". He continued to show work at the exhibitions of the RBA, RSA, Glasgow Institute and GAA but A, but in 1906 his health broke down. By summer 1908 Lamond was back in Dundee, where he held an exhibition of his latest work in his new studio at 3 Constitution Road; the following year he moved to 27 Bank Street where he would remain for the rest of his life. In 1915 he gained a celebrity patron in the person of music hall legend Harry Lauder, who commissioned two paintings from him and visited him periodically in both Dundee and Auchmithie. During the Great War, Lamond continued to paint as much as ever, spending his summers in Auchmithie then showing the results in exhibitions in his studio each autumn. Lamond died of pneumonia in 1924 at his home in William Street. Thirty-two of William Bradley Lamond's paintings are held in Scottish public collections.
JACK DANIEL'S 1981 GOLD MEDAL SERIES | ABV: 43% | Region: Tennessee | Country: USA | Type: Tennessee Whiskey | Volume: 1000 ml | Duty stamp: none | Packaging: without packaging | Bottle code: 124021711B 4344416 | Estimate: 4 000 - 6 000 Kc | Distillery | Jack Daniel's is one of the most famous whiskey brands in the world, and synonymous with Tennessee Whiskey. The history of the distillery dates back to the mid-1800s, when founder Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel took over the distillery at the age of 13 from Reverend Dan Call, with whom he had originally learned the trade. Jack Daniel's Distillery was officially established in 1866 in Lynchburg, Tennessee, making it the first registered distillery in the United States.Jack Daniel's whiskey is distinguished from bourbon by a special filtering process through a thick layer of maple wood charcoal , known as the Lincoln County Process. This step gives it a characteristic smoothness and distinguishes it from bourbon, classifying it as a Tennessee whiskey. Then the whiskey matures in hand-made oak barrels, where it acquires a rich taste with notes of caramel, vanilla and wood.Jack Daniel's Distillery is part of the Brown-Forman Corporation, one of the world's largest beverage companies. Paradoxically, it is still produced in the city of Lynchburg, which is the so-called a dry city where the sale of alcohol is officially prohibited. The Jack Daniel's brand has achieved cult status in popular culture, particularly through its close association with music genres such as rock and country, and today is one of the best-selling whiskeys in the world. | Bottle | Jack Daniel's 1981 Gold Medal Series is part of a special collector's collection released by the Jack Daniel's distillery to celebrate the gold medals the brand has won at international competitions. This particular edition commemorates Jack Daniel's success at the Monde Selection Awards in Brussels in 1981, where the whiskey received a prestigious gold medal for its exceptional quality.Nose: Delicate and sweet, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak, complemented by a light fruitiness.Taste: Smooth and balanced, with flavors of caramel, vanilla, soft oak, and a hint of spice.Finish: Medium-length and sweet, with lingering woody notes and a subtle spicy aftertaste. This bottle is a sought-after collector's item due to its history and attractive design that pays tribute to a milestone for the Jack Daniel's brand.
