A RARE PIONEER MACHETE KNIFE BY RABONE BROS & Co., BIRMINGHAM, mid-19th Century, with 14in. single-edged blade, 2in. deep with shallow clipped point, stamped with the company trademark of a lion couchant over 'RABONE BROS. & Co / CAST STEEL' to one side, horn grips secured by four rivets, together with its original brown leather scabbard, staining to the blade, and trademark and script rubbed, some cracking to the grips but remain tight, scabbard worn with presumed loss of the throat fitting and loss to the point, 19in. overall. One machete is unmarked, with another having ‘No.28’ stamped to the ricasso, and a faint markers mark, but this is unreadable. One machete is approximately 73.5cm in length, with the other being 64.4cm in length. Condition: normal age related darkening to the blades, plus some service wear to the handles. A few edge nicks to the edges of the blades, and some light surface corrosion spotting. Both respective sheathes are missing.
