WW2 GERMAN NAVAL BINOCULARS BY ERNST LEITZ. Second World War German naval binoculars, 7 x 50 magnification, marked to casing with serial number 384494 (T), 'KF', manufacturers code 'beh' for Ernst Leitz GmbH, Wetzlar, and Kriegsmarine eagle over 'M', complete with leather strap and bakelite lens cover marked 'Benutzer', and 'Ocular testgestellt. Nicht verdrehen', held in fitted leather case dated 1941 and stamped with manufacturers code 'beh', the binoculars come with a British Customs Declaration dated January 1946 with the binoculars details including serial number under the heading 'Description of Articles' and 'Jersey, Channel Islands, June 1945' under 'Date and Place of Purchase'.
FIRST WORLD WAR GERMAN FIELD GLASSES ATTRIBUTED TO A BRITISH OFFICER. First World War period German Field Glasses by E. Leitz, Wetzlar, engraved to central shaft 'E DAVIES, INNS OF COURT O.T.C. LINCOLNS INN W2' and on the the tube end 'LIEUT. E. DAVIES, NOTTS (S.R.) YEOMANRY', records show Lieutenant, later Captain, Eric Davies of the 1/1st Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers), entered Egypt on 27th April 1915, the regiment went on to serve at Gallipoli, Salonika, and then back to Egypt where it served with the desert Mounted Corps in Palestine, he is shown entitled to the 1914-15 Star, 1914-1918 British War Medal, and Victory Medal, Eric Davies is shown in the Law Society Gazette as appearing on the last list of gentlemen applying to be admitted as Solicitors to the Supreme Court before the outbreak of war in 1914, articled to Henry Cooke, 1 Copthall Buildings, London, he was mobilised in 1914 and was wounded twice, at Gallipoli in 1915, and Palestine in 1917.
