Lot 476

BERNARD DE HOOG (DUTCH 1867 - 1943), COTTAGE INTERIOR oil on canvas, signedframed and under glassimage size 49cm x 39cm, overall size 76cm x 66cmNote: Dutch artist, Bernard De Hoog, produced a rich oeuvre of gentle interior scenes, which celebrated the everyday moments within family - particularly between mothers and their children. Newborns are cradled within their mother's arms while siblings read in rustic kitchens. In many respects, De Hoog’s work is comparable to the great Dutch painter, Jozef Israëls (1924-1911) and ultimately rooted within the traditions of the Dutch masters. During his time studying under the eminent Jan van Essen, he produced numerous copies of old masters while honing histechnique. It’s said that his career began through chance when working in an office for a merchant. Rather than figures in a ledger, the merchant discovered various sketches and drawings and was so impressed that he asked the young De Hoog to paint his wife. This, in turn, led to the artist’s tutelage under a drawing master and later, an academy. When we look back across his body of work, the consistent thread is a celebration of simple family life and the instinctive love between a mother and child. Misty sentimentalism majestically described with an impressionistic touch. In 1939, De Hoog’s work was shown in an exhibition at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) - Heath Ledger Autographed Photo - An autographed photo of Heath Ledger as the Joker from Christopher Nolan's superhero sequel The Dark Knight. The announcement that Ledger would play one of popular culture's most notorious villains at first seemed surprising, given the Australian actor was previously best known for romantic and heroic roles. Ledger sadly died just a few months after filming, but won several posthumous awards, including the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.Nolan and makeup artist John Caglione drew particular inspiration for the Joker's look from the paintings of Francis Bacon. Superbly preserved 1602, just 3,349 miles in 49 years. BMW launched its 'Neue Klasse' ('New Class') range of compact saloons and coupés in 1962 and it is no exaggeration to say that they were the cars that saved the company. Up to that point they had been best known for making beautifully engineered but incredibly complex and expensive machines that nobody outside of Germany could either afford or understand. With its crisp, modernist styling, brilliant chassis dynamics and superb engineering, the Neue Klasse changed all that at a stroke and established BMW as a truly international brand. Although it was the 'pocket rocket' 2-litre 2002 that everyone raved about, the smaller 1600-2 and 1500-2 were arguably better cars, being better balanced and cheaper to own and run. An economy version of the 2002, the 1600-2 was launched at the Geneva Auto Show in March 1966 and was sold through 1975, with its name simplified to 1602 in 1971. With 85bhp from its M10 engine, the 1602 won friends for its excellent dynamics and brilliant handling. Now, this really is special. Purchased on 1st January 1975 from Normand (Bromley) Ltd by Mr M J Ledger, finished in Schwarz (086) with a cream leather and cord interior, this gleaming BMW 1602 was to remain in his possession until it became the property of its second owner on 11th May 2016. He, in turn, added it to his Collection using it only occasionally until it was purchased by our vendor in 2019 to add to his Collection of desirable classics. Still in remarkably original condition, this delightful little 'Beemer' has covered a total of 3,349 miles since New Years Day 49 years ago.The car's history file contains the full book pack, original service book, sales brochure, Haynes Manual and copy of the original V5. A Normand (Bromley) Ltd tax disc and leather key ring will also be found in their original paper bag! It's fortunate for the rest of us that there are people who will buy a new car, use it lightly on dry days, return it to their garage and strive consistently over the years to keep the car in, as close as possible, the condition in which it arrived and we would guess that this little BMW has belonged to three of those. An exceptional find and worthy of a place in any Collection.Specification Make: BMW Model: 1602 Year: 1975 Chassis Number: 3560545 Registration Number: GMY 174N Transmission: Manual Engine Number: 3560545 Odometer Reading: 3349 Miles Make: Interior Colour: Cream leatherClick here for more details and images

Shane Warne & Muttiah Muralitharan signed Limited Edition Lithograph with COA This absolutely stunning item of signed Cricket Memorabilia a striking action lithograph that takes you on a photographic and factual journey through Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan's continuing battle to become the world's greatest wicket taker. Personally signed by both spinners and independently authenticated and certified by the major chartered accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, 'Record Pursuit' is available in a strictly limited edition of 350Officially licensed by Cricket Australia and Sri Lanka Cricket, each are individually numbered and measure in at a large and impressive 650mm by 450mmRivals, friends, headline-makers and two of the world's greatest bowlers, Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan will remember 2004 as a watershed in their colourful careers, with both spinners passing 500 Test wickets and continuing their 'battle' to become the world's greatest-ever wicket taker Their race to be the first spin bowler to take 500 wickets was a classic ' cat and mouse' struggle during Australia's 3-Test series in Sri Lanka in March 2004. After a well-publicised and determined duel, Warne was victorious, taking wicket number 500 on March 12, during the 1st Test in Galle. By the end of the tour, the ledger read: Warne 517 wickets, Muralitharan 513 - with West Indian great Courtney Walsh's world record of 519 wickets ready to be broken It was Muralitharan who first claimed that illustrious 'crown', passing Walsh's record during Sri Lanka's Test series against Zimbabwe in May 2004. The champion off-spinner set a new world record when he captured his 520th wicket in the 1st Test in Harare on May 8. Muralitharan then dismissed a further seven Zimbabwean batsmen in the series to take his tally to 527. Shane Warne's quest to overhaul Muralitharan in the world wicket-taking began in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka in Darwin and Cairns in July. Warne took 3 wickets in the 1st Test in Darwin to move within reach of Muralitharan, before equalling his world record mark with a sensational haul of 7 wickets in the 2nd Test in Cairns! Warne held the record until it was broken by Muralitharan on December 3, 2007A superb item of Cricket Memorabilia to celebrate the two statistically greatest Bowlers of all time!
