Ca. 550 BC A beautiful black-figure pottery kylix with a short pedestal disk foot, a wide cup, narrow stem, and two opposing handles. The central tondo is adorned with the painted and incised image of a dancing satyr. The external decoration consists of further satyrs surrounded by ivy tendrils highlighted with incised striations. Two large black eye motifs with expressive eyebrows are painted on one side. Size: 280mm x 90mm; Weight: 480g Provenance: Property of a London gallery, acquired on the US art market; formerly in a collection of John R. Orr, Toledo, Ohio, acquired Christie’s, South Kensington, Oct. 30th, 1989, lot 112, pictured on the front cover, to family by inheritance, with copy of Acanthus, NYC. 1989 appraisal list where it is listed as Boeotian. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
Four 19th Century 6 inch dust pressed tiles depicting animal subjects, to include a Mintons Art Pottery Studio Kensington Gore tile, painted blue over white ground, decorated with a crab and eel on a seabed with seaweed within circular panel and wavy lined ground, a Wagstaff & Brunt of Longton (attributed) example printed blue over white ground, decorated with a monkey and infant within circular panel with shaped border and circular mouse mask roundels, a Mintons Hollins & Co painted tile in sepia tones over white ground with lions mask with gaping mouth, signed with monogram IH, and a Craven Dunmill & Co example, blue transfer printed over white, decorated with a curled fish within scrolling seaweed on a mottled stylised seaweed ground. A large Japanese footed pottery bowl, by Shoji Hamada. With a ribbed tapering body and foot, decorated with three circular motifs, the wooden box purchased via Koichiro Isaka owner of Gallery St Ives, Tokyo with signed lid by Shinsaku Hamada, bowl height 12.5cm, diameter 20cm. Provenance: Originally purchased from the Hamada family in Mashiko circa 1998. Purchased by the vendor from J.A.N. Fine Art, Kensington Church Street, London in 2011. No condition issues.

John Adams for Poole Pottery CSA 'Chinese' blue glazed group of ceramics, comprising a pair of ginger jars and covers, with impressed marks to the base, 17cm high, a pedestal dish, incised '464' to the base with impressed marks, 11.5cm high x 20.5cm wide and a wide-shouldered vase, incised '422' to the base, 18cm high overall (4)Provenance: One of the blue ginger jars with covers was purchased from 'The Poole Pottery Museum and Archive' sale at Christie's South Kensington on 31st March 2004 and was lot 45, it comes with a photocopy of the accompanying invoice. The other item (Lustre vase) that is listed on the invoice is included in this sale. The ginger retains its original paper lot label. All with overall wear, marks, scratches, signs of age and use. One ginger jar lid with cracks. One ginger jar (Not the Archive sale example) with flaws to the footrim, we think this is a manufacturing/production fault, not damage. There is a similar fault to the footrim of the vase also. The pedestal bowl sounds dull when tapped, we have checked it under a UV light as a result and nothing shows. The Archive sale ginger jar has lots of sticky label/sellotape residue, but we think this would clean off with a gentle wash.
Owen Carter for Carters Poole collection of four lustre vases, the tallest of square tapering form, with incised marks to the base and with Christie's lot number (See Provenance note), 31.5cm high, a red lustre baluster vase with impressed marks to the base and with Christie's lot number (See Provenance note), 22cm high, a Carters Poole red lustre bowl, with incised marks to the base, 20cm wide x 9cm high and a purple glazed twin handles vase, with incised marks to the base, 15cm high overall (4)Provenance: The two taller vases were purchased from 'The Poole Pottery Museum and Archive' sale at Christie's South Kensington on 31st March 2004 and were lot 1, they come with an accompanying invoice and catalogue. All with overall wear, marks and scratches. Consistent with age, display and use. All with crazing. The tallest example with some white to the corners and raised areas, this is wear to the finish, not damage. The baluster vase with some chips and a hairline crack. The bowl with minimal glaze faults, a pinhole to the glaze and with scratches. The purple vase with what looks like white paint on the surface?

The tiles were painted by students from the NAT porcelain class and then later by Minton's Art Pottery Studio. The decoration of these tiles was virtually the first pottery teaching in a British art school.
