Tonlampe mit Kantharos. Römisch, 1. Jh. n. Chr. L 10,5cm, H 2,7cm. Loeschcke Typ IV. Aus beigem Ton mit rotbraunem Überzug. Runder Corpus mit runder Volutenschnauze mit rundem Brennloch. Auf dem von konzentrischen Kreisen gerahmten, leicht vertieften Spiegel ist ein hoher Kantharos abgebildet, aus dem Weinranken mit großen Blättern und Trauben sprießen. Im Spiegel ein Brennloch. Auf der Unterseite als Werkstattmarke ein Π. Oberfläche berieben. Dadurch treten Kantharos und Weinranken deutlich aus dem Spiegel hervor und bieten ein attraktives plastisches Motiv. Apulischer rotfiguriger Glockenkrater, Werkstatt des Iliupersis-Malers. 360 - 350 v. Chr. H 28,1cm, ø Mündung 28,9cm, ø Körper 19,4cm, ø Fuß 13,5cm. Auf der Vorderseite ein Jüngling mit Kalathos und Spendenschale vor einer sitzenden Frau mit Kantharos. Im Hintergrund zwei Fenster und ein Bukranion. Rückwärtig zwei Manteljünglinge. Auf der Vorderseite reicher Einsatz von weißer Farbe zum Beispiel für Schmuck und Kantharos der Frau. Aus Fragmenten zusammengesetzt, kleine Fehlstellen wie am Kopf des Jünglings auf der Vorderseite sind retuschiert. Provenienz: Ex Sammlung F. Pladeck, Nordrhein-Westfalen, seit vor 1970.

Thrakische Mysterienplakette und Kästchenbeschlag. Römische Kaiserzeit, 2. - 3. Jh. n. Chr. Runde Bleiplatte (ø 7,5cm) gerahmt von Eierstab und Perlstab. In der Mitte Helena zwischen den Dioskuren, die über zwei liegende Figuren hinwegreiten. Oben im Feld Sol, Luna, ein Stern und zwei Schlangen. Helena steht über einem Fisch und über einem Dreifuß. Im Abschnitt ein Hahn, ein Kantharos, ein unbestimmter Vierbeiner und drei Torques. Die genaue Bedeutung der einzelnen Gegenstände und Gestalten der sog. Mysterienplaketten ist kaum noch sicher zu erklären. Die zentrale weibliche Figur wird meist als Helena benannt, die in der spätrömischen, thrakischen Religion zum Symbol der umhergetriebenen Seele geworden sein soll. Die auftretenden Himmelsgötter weisen jedenfalls auf einen umfassenden kosmologischen Glauben.

Zahlreiche kleine Absplitterungen, im Hals und Henkel gebrochen und wieder angesetzt, dabei ergänzte Fehlstelle. Apulische Xenonware: Kothon mit Lorbeerkranz (H 8,9cm). Kleine Absplitterung am Fuß, sonst intakt. Gnathiaware: Kleiner Chous mit Weinranke auf dem Hals (H 11cm). Leichter Farbabrieb, sonst intakt. Glanztonware: Weite Bauchlekythos (H 9,1cm, ø 7,5cm). Aus Fragmenten zusammengesetzt mit retuschierten Fehlstellen. Kantharos (H 10cm, B 15,2cm). Geringer Farbabrieb und kleine Fehlstelle an einer Daumenrast. Kleine Tüllenkanne, sog. Ausgießer (H 8,6cm, L 9,2cm). Zwei kleine Fehlstellen an der Mündung. Dazu: Unguentarium aus hellbraunem Ton mit dunkelbraunem Überzug im Bereich der Mündung (H 9,7cm). Intakt. 7 Stück! Twin handled Greek terracotta Kantharos with remnants of black glaze, approx 7.5cm in height

Circa 320 BC A huge and beautiful red figure Apulian amphora. On one side is a seated, a flowering plant in an Ionic naiskos, a small temple often applied as a motif in ancient funerary art. On the reverse the "Lady of Fashion". The female head is illustrated facing left and adorned with a radiate stephane, ribbon sakkos, necklace and earrings. There are large palmettes on the sides and the back is covered with innumerable wreaths. The style of the profile female head on the reverse is close to those of the Painter of the Potenza Plates, a painter associated with the Stoke-on-Trent and Kantharos Groups. See pl. CVI,2 in Trendall and Cambitoglou, Second Supplement to the Red-figured Vases of Apulia. This piece has been precisely dated by means of a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla, an independent German Laboratory. The samples collected date the piece to the period reflected in its style, whilst also showing no modern trace elements. The TL certificate with its full report will accompany this lot. A polychrome kantharos of low profile, the outer body with circumferential band of rounded spikes and two small loop handles between body and rim, two concentric basal rings; polychrome decoration composed of alternating stripes of beige slip and iron oxide; possibly inspired by sea shells. There are two common examples of this type, one like the above lot, where the hero leans heavily to one side while holding out a drinking vessel, and the other where he unsteadily and comically relieves himself. This image of an inebriated Hercules juxtaposes one we are used to of the Hero in action, carrying out one of his labours. Hercules was known to be a heavy drinker with multiple stories referencing this, for example, when he challenged Dionysus to a drinking contest, and lost. A mixed group of miniature blackware ceramic vessels of Magna Graecian (Apulian) workmanship, comprising: a kantharos with carinated body, everted rim, two strap handles and red geometric boarder to the shoulder; three oenochoe juglets with trefoil mouths, strap handles and discoid feet, one with a swan motif, one with a warrior running left holding a weapon, and one with a band of scrolled tendrils; a bell krater with two handles and a palmette to each face. 200 grams total, 57-76mm (2 1/4 - 3"). Ca. 400-300 BC. Apulia. A beautiful pair of miniature South Italic xenon ware vessels. One is a classic olpe with an elegant body featuring two decorative registers in added matte red pigment adorning the body/shoulder - from top to bottom - a band of vertical frets and next a band of bay leaves. The other is a trefoil spout oinochoe with a bulbous body and curved handle on a ringed foot; the body is decorated a large red palmette. Good condition. Both items were created in a pottery workshop in the region of Apulia in southern Italy where potters were known for introducing additional pigments to black-glazed vessels. 'Xenon ware' refers to this particular variety of Apulian pottery which features matte red decoration added on a glossy black background. The term 'Xenon ware' comes from a kantharos displayed at the Liebieghaus Museum in Frankfurt, Germany, which bears the inscription 'XENON' and was the basis for categorisation of this type of Apulian pottery. Ca. 400-300 BC. Daunian. A wonderful wheel-thrown pottery kantharos (wine cup) with a footed base, bulbous body, rounded shoulders, an everted lip, and two high strap handles. The extant black pigment shows that the kantharos' body was decorated with a black central band flanked above and below by linear decoration; the neck and foot were also entirely black, while the lip displays black claw-shaped decoration. The Daunians were famed for their beautiful geometric pottery, which was hand-formed, rather than made by wheel, and decorated in both bichrome and polychrome palettes. In later periods, their decorative technique expanded to include crudely-rendered figures and animals.
