Frederick William Ryan KM (1883-1956) An archive of papers, photographs and sketches. Included here are two copies of the prospectus, seven advertising flyers announcing the portraits of Tim Healy and President Cosgrave, photos and a b&w lithograph of Healy (by MacEgan); the same again for Cosgrave but with the printed folder and letterpress; the manuscript dummy copy for the Robert Emmet pamphlet, with ink lettering inside and out and the original pencil drawing of Emmet by MacEgan pasted in; a variety of photographs and manuscript material concerning the Wolfe Tone pamphlet, including MacEgan's pencil portrait of the bust in TCD library, newspaper clippings reporting the 1933 Wolfe Tone celebrations, annotated by Ryan, and a letter from Cahill & Co., who printed the Wolfe Tone Souvenir for Ryan; plus Lord Ashbourne - an Intimate Pen Picture by Charlotte Dease, published by Ryan and with eight related photos laid in. Also Dublin Shrines: Number One - Shrine of St. Anne at the Church of St. Audoen, High Street, with a lithograph by MacEgan, printed by Goodridge's and distributed by F. K. Ryan, with order form enclosed. Also a folder of 19 photographs of Irish interest; better include a scene in Castlecomer Co. Kilkenny, woodland scenes near Blarney Co. The 22 page pamphlet (stapled wrappers, pages uncut) reproduces a talk that was read before the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland on 9 December 1930 and is inscribed by the author. Also his manuscript notes and translations of the notebooks (which are held in the Bibliotheque Nationale Paris), and typed manuscript copy of the Baron's Carnets de Voyage.. a travers Ireland. BERLIN, SVEN (1911- 1999). The original illustrated manuscript of his unpublished book "Genesis 80" comprising illustrated title in pen & ink and 61 largely full-page watercolour drawings incorporating manuscript verse. Together with 1 double-page watercolour, and at end, the 6-page manuscript "Colophon" - "The Root of Genesis "80". Signed boldly on title and signed and dated "Gaunts, Dorset, "83" at end. The leaves perforated on inner margin; two leaves removed and two leaves re-attached on inner margin with cellulose tape by the artist, occasional deletion in correction fluid by the artist. 12 x 8 inches, original grained black boards decorated and lettered in gilt; the spine lettered "Original - Genesis 80- - Sven Berlin". An exhibition catalogue of Berlin's work (1981), 1 of a limited edition of 35, signed and with an original drawing tipped-in, is included with the above.

(Sailors bringing tea ashore), drawing, pen and black ink over pencil, with grey wash, 163 x 150mm., unexamined out of frame, framed and glazed, mid 18th century. *** The drawing shows three women drinking tea around a fire in the countryside, as sailors unload a further shipment onto the shore. In the background a "Crown Inn" stands neglected and dilapidated. A label on the reverse suggests this to be a preparatory drawing for an engraving.

Architecture.- Hollar (Wenceslaus) (A Chalice), after a finely detailed drawing by Andrea Mantegna in the collection of the Earl of Arundel, etching, 465 x 240mm., narrow margins, upper three-quarters laid at edges onto a loose album leaf, horizontal fold, with a slight split, above lower quarter with an area of loss to the left side, not affecting image or title, two short tears and light creasing in this section, a surface abrasion, spotting and surface dirt, 1640; (The Tower St Rombaut's, Mechelen), detailed elevation of the 13th century structure, without background, etching, two plates joined, 740 x 155mm., laid down, old horizontal folds, slight browning and spotting, a few light surface abrasions, not affecting the engraved area, surface dust, Antwerp, 1649; with an early 19th century engraved view of Harefield Palace and a pen and ink drawing of a monastery interior (4).
