(5)Lid of ginger jar with large cracks and heavy restoration, body without chips or cracks. Plate, vase and tea bowl appear without chips or cracks, some light loss to paintwork.
A LARGE IMARI BALUSTER VASE LATE 17TH CENTURY 41cm high, 31cm diameter overall Condition Report: 39.5cm high, the top 16.5cm wide, the base 14.5cm diameter Condition is generally good with some typical rubbing to gilding from handling, firing faults notably to base, one flaw has expanded slightly upwards into lower edge of main body with diagonal stained cracking, and with characteristic crazing to glaze. Under UV light there are restorers' fingerprints and signs that a thin crack may have had attention to it. Additionally, there has been spotted infill to small areas of loss to one upper panel. A PAIR OF JAPANESE IMARI VASES LATE 17TH CENTURY 40cm high, 32cm diameter Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches abrasions commensurate with age and use. Generally, in good order with mild rubbing to gilding. UV showing small, retouched blemish to neck of one. One with a 15-centimetre long vertical rub mark to shoulders and below of body. A pair of Imari baluster vases and covers, each with Shishi finials, approximately 52cm tall Commander Frederick Mortimer Barwick, Captain Royal Indian Marine (1857-1954), of Scartho Hall and later Folkestone. Thence by descent to the current owner. The vases can be seen displayed in Barwick's home in Folkestone in this early 20th Century photograph below a Burmese throne and to the side of an elaborately carved cabinet One vase with a section broken from the rim and glued. Some associated cracks from the break. One cover with a small chip to flange.
A large 19th century Japanese Imari charger, decorated with figures, fence and foliate patterns heightened with gilding. diameter 48 cm (see illustration).The charger has a crack to the bottom left-hand side running from the edge into the dish which is approximately 15 cm in length. The underside is covered with a fabric pad which is glued into place for wall hanging. The gilding to the front is a little worn in places but nothing to untoward.
A Royal Crown Derby Imari patterned octagonal bowl, circa 1934. Height 6.5 cm, diameter 15.5 cm.The bowl is in generally very good order and rings when tapped. There are no significant scratches to the interior and there are no chips, hairline cracks, damage or restoration. The gilding is generally very good also, with only very minor rubbing to the top lip. The piece has the Royal Crown Derby mark to the underside.
