Universal Studios issued a rare 3D lenticular poster to select theatres to promote Steven Spielberg's sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). They are designed to have a three-dimensional look, so a different image is seen depending on the angle from which you are looking at the poster. STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983) - Anthony Daniels Collection: Screen-matched Light-up C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) Head - A screen-matched light-up C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) head from Richard Marquand's Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.C-3PO voiced the first on-screen dialogue in A New Hope and is one of the only characters to appear in all 9 films of the Star Wars saga, making Threepio one of the most memorable robots in cinema history. In Return of the Jedi, Threepio's role grew to arguably his most prominent in the entire series, with him playing a key part in delivering a message on behalf of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) to Jabba the Hutt; working for Jabba as a translator; joining the Rebel strike force to the Forest Moon of Endor; and being perceived as a God by the Ewoks and convincing them to join the Battle of Endor. This head screen-matches to several of the scenes on Endor, including when Luke reunites with the group after the speeder bike chase and as the Rebels scout out and approach the shield reactor. It matches through distinct markings on the right side of C-3PO's outer perimeter ring. Daniels has also frequently posed with the head for publicity purposes. This is the only complete C-3PO head from Return of the Jedi currently in a private collection and it is offered directly from Anthony Daniels. Daniels, who played C-3PO within the costume as well as providing the voice, is the only actor to have featured in all Star Wars theatrical releases. C-3PO's enduring popularity is a testament to Daniels' fantastic performances. The golden robot was originally designed by legendary concept artist Ralph McQuarrie, and Daniels instantly fell in love with the character when he saw McQuarrie's concepts. The initial designs were based on Walter Schulze-Mittendorff's Maschinenmensch "Maria" robot from Fritz Lang's 1927 German expressionist sci-fi film Metropolis. After being cast as Threepio, Daniels went through a lengthy process of moulding his face, torso and limbs to create the costume. Several different versions of the head were sculpted by Liz Moore, and George Lucas chose the now-iconic design. The costume head is made of very thin fibreglass to be as close-fitting and lightweight as possible, and it comprised of three major components: a backplate, faceplate (with installed eyes), and a neck-ring which are fixed together with two neck-bolts and the forehead antennae. It differs in its construction from the ones originally built for A New Hope, including the one which Propstore sold in its UK Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in November, 2023. Where the head from A New Hope features aluminum details that were machined and individually-installed at the back of the head and the mouth of the faceplate, these components are cast into the fiberglass on this head. The fittings that hold the two halves of the head together were also updated as the films progressed; the neck bolts and forehead antennae were threaded connectors on the Episode IV pieces, whereas this head features the more advanced quarter-turn versions. The costume's illuminating "photoreceptor" eyes were designed in such a way as to keep them from blinding Daniels when illuminated; a black material was installed behind the lights to shield Daniels' eyes, leaving only small ports through which the performer could see. The eyes retain their original wiring, which is taped to the inside of the head, and they connect to a more recently installed battery pack and switch. The interior of the backplate has "5" handwritten in black marker pen.The whole head has been intentionally distressed and tarnished to give the character a very weathered look, worlds away from the clean, golden sheen which the character appeared with during the medal ceremony at the end of Episode IV.The costume head's eyes illuminate when an internal switch is activated, and it is presented on a custom-made display stand.Threepio stands as one of the most recognizable cinema designs of all time. This screen-matched C-3PO costume head, with direct provenance to the production, is one of the most significant artifacts from the original Star Wars film to come to market. Dimensions: 9.75" x 7.75" x 12.5" (25 cm x 20 cm x 32 cm) Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.Special shipping required; see special shipping notice in the Buyer's Guide. This lot comes from the personal collection of actor Anthony Daniels. Daniels plays loyal protocol droid C-3PO in the Star Wars saga. He first appeared in the role in 1977 and is the only actor to appear in all Star Wars feature films to date.See PDF below for a comprehensive study of this and other lots in the Anthony Daniels collection. Estimate: $500,000 - 1,000,000Bidding for this lot will end on Tuesday, March 12th. The auction will begin at 9:00AM PDT and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. A B-3, brown leather/shearling lined aviation jacket as seen worn by Steve McQueen as "Capt. Buzz Rickson" in the war/drama The War Lover (Columbia Pictures Corporation, 1962). This style jacket features two leathers and numerous hand-sewn patches to prevent and conceal wear. The jacket's design features a wide fold-over collar with two buckles and straps to stand the collar up and cover the neck. There are two side adjustable buckles and zip closure. The jacket is in various shades of brown due to the types of leather, dyeing process, as well protective coating. There is a partial maker label, the remaining part of the label reads, "PROPERTY, AIR FORCE US ARMY," marked a size regular. This jacket shows moderate overall wear (primarily due to use by Captain Crewdson while riding on his motorcycle) inlcuding several holes and tears to the leather, balding to the lining, cracking to the leather coating, as well as numerous repairs and alterations. New leather patches are applied to the shoulders and inner sleeves, as well as hand-sewn repairs to tears on the sleeves and body of the jacket. When McQueen complained of the costume department's version of a flight jacket being too large, it was suggested that Crewdson loan the jacket to the starring actor, which shows up in the final cut of the film.Includes a black and white lobby card and a DVD of the film. PROVENANCE Lot 44 "Entertainment Memorabilia," Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge, June 25, 2014

Lot 961a

The iconic vibrant-flamingo-pink-silk-satin-organza haute couture evening dress was designed by Hubert Givenchy and worn by Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Blake Edward’s classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s (Paramount, 1961). This eye-catching iridescent pink dress is a fashion confection that never loses its infectious sweet nature. Composed of a lovely silk-satin-organza brilliantly showcasing the many talents of French couturier Givenchy, the fitted bodice with a scoop neckline and princess seams showcases the poised nature of Hepburn and her gamine frame. The romance of the design grows with a tulip-shaped skirt, sewn to the bodice and gathering just above the hips. The gathered fullness and volume allow the skirt to gently float away from the body with the hem reaching past the knee, fully embellished with glass seed beads, faceted silver foil back rhinestones, and guipure applique, tassel-like fans, in pale gold, adding texture to the dress, uncharacteristic to Holly's previous fashions. Givenchy apprenticed with Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, this particular design of Givenchy seems to capture a Spanish-like style, referencing Balenciaga's use of vibrant pinks and matador-like embroidery. The dress was a stark contrast to everything else Holly Golightly is seen wearing in the film, which primarily was black and earth tones. There is no label or size tag present.  Hepburn is seen in the dress towards the end of the film when the characters Holly and José (played by José Luis de Vilallonga) return from a night out. The scene showcases Hepburn’s emotional range, one moment buoyant and bubbly the next moment heartbroken, as she learns her brother Fred is dead. Paul who enters the scene, played by George Peppard, tries to comfort Holly who violently tears apart her apartment until she collapses in Paul’s arms and he places her on her bed. The overhead camera shot of Holly on the bed in the darkroom, light coming through the doorframe, and feathers floating from a torn pillow is a haunting image, the pink of the dress seems to be that small glimmer of hope that the character will come out of this sadness within herself to find true happiness. Givenchy designed this dress for his fall 1960 collection, which was shown in black. Lee Radziwell, a well-known client, was photographed wearing the design on March 20th, 1961 leaving the Hotel Carlyle with her sister Jacqueline Kennedy in New York City. Audrey asked Givenchy to make the design pink and to alter the neckline with a low-scoop neckline, the original neckline was cut higher to the neck.  Hubert Givenchy designed for his label until 1995, and the pieces he created for Audrey Hepburn became a lasting reference for style and fashion in pop culture. Images of Audrey in the house’s couture designs still influence designers today. Clare Waight Keller, appointed creative director from 2017 until 2020 for the fall 2018 couture collection,  featured an updated LBD-little black dress with an au courant hood reminiscent of Audrey's dresses in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The magic of Audrey as Holly, dressed to the 9’s throughout the film, in timeless Givenchy continues to illustrate romance and create a lust for French couture. This lot comes with a DVD/Blu-Ray of the film and an original movie still. PROVENANCE Lot 228 "Film and Entertainment Memorabilia," Christie's Auction House (Sale #1854) May 30, 2007.
