In 1911 he received a silver medal from the RA along with a prize of £5.He exhibited his work in the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society (1910) and the Royal Academy Exhibition (1913, 1914, 1934, 1935 and 1940), and the Royal Cambrian Academy of Arts 53rd Annual Exhibition (1935).An engagement ring designed in 1912 by Ware for his future wife, Theodora Margaret Lancaster, is now held in the Victoria and Albert Museum collections.During the First World War he served as a Private in the Marine Army Medical Corps and Royal Army Service Corps, and as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers.Elected as a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1916, he moved to sculpting as a profession following the Second World War. From 1948 to 1953 he became the Vice President of the society.

An 18ct gold amethyst and diamond dress ring by Alan Martin Gard, 1968, the oval mixed-cut amethyst edged by outset of brilliant-cut diamond highlights, within a raised textured and ribbed mount, the decoration extending to the shank, maker’s mark ‘AMG’, London hallmark, total diamond weight approximately 0.25 carat, ring size L - M. £1,500-£2,000 --- Alan Martin Gard (b.1935) is a London-based jeweller who formed part of the renaissance of Modern British jewellery design in the second half of the 20th century. After long apprenticeships at both Combies of Bond Street, and under Andrew Grima, Gard set out on his own in 1966. He has exhibited at both Goldsmiths’ Hall and the London Design Centre and has won various prizes including the De Beers Engagement ring design contest. He is still based at St. Cross Street in Hatton Garden. Condition Report Some very light surface scratches to the table of the amethyst. The amethyst of rich even hue. Hallmarks clear. Arty. 1853.) replacement small silver ring suspension, with modern keyring loop to facilitate riband, nearly very fine £120-£160 --- William McAdam served in Plymouth with the 12th Brigade, Royal Regiment of Artillery, from 23 August 1853. He is later recorded as serving at Bristol before being discharged on 19 July 1881 at termination of his second period of engagement after 21 years’ service.

(Military) Companion’s breast badge, 18 carat gold and enamels, hallmarked London 1887, complete with swivel-ring suspension and gold ribbon bar; China 1857-60, 2 clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Lieut. W. H. B. Kingsley. 67th Regt.) officially impressed naming; Afghanistan 1878-80, 2 clasps, Charasia, Cabul (Major W. H. B. Kingsley. 67th Foot); India General Service 1854-94, 1 clasp, Burma 1885-7 (Colonel W. H. B. Kingsley 2d Bn. Hamps. London Gazette 25 November 1887 William Henry Bell Kingsley was born on 28 August 1835, and gazetted Ensign in the 67th Foot on 1 June 1855. Promoted to Lieutenant in October 1857, he served with the regiment throughout the China war of 1860, including the action at Sinho, taking of Tongho, and was severely wounded in the leg at the storming of the inner Taku Fort; also present at the surrender of Pekin. Kingsley raised and commanded a regiment of 600 Chinese at Shanghai and was in action during the Taiping Rebellion of 1862-63. Promoted to Captain in May 1863, he served as A.D.C. to the Governor of the Cape of Good Hope in 1866, and was further promoted to Major in August 1872. Kingsley served with the 67th Foot throughout the Afghan war of 1878-80 and was present in the engagement at Charasia on 6 October 1879, and in the operations around Cabul in December 1879, including the investment of Sherpore (twice mentioned in despatches, and Brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel). Kingsley commanded the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, from August 1882 until 1886, including its service in the Burmese Expedition 1885-86, until after the capture of Mandalay (mentioned in despatches, London Gazettes 22 June 1886 and 2 September 1887, and appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath). He was placed on Half Pay in August 1886, and commanded the Derby Regimental District, 1887-90. Kingsley was granted a Distinguished Service Pension on 3 April 1898, for general service. Colonel Kingsley died on 3 October 1901. Sold with copied research.
