Ca. 600 - 400 BC. A chalcedony octagonal domed seal, pierced lengthways below the top. The design, which was achieved with a drill and cutting wheel alone, shows a standing worshipper on the right in a long robe. He is bearded and is raising one hand toward the spade of Marduk and the styluses of Nabu on a stand. The Waterloo medal awarded to Corporal William Emmott, Royal Horse Guards, appointed Quartermaster in the Regiment in 1828, and subsequently Captain and Adjutant of the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry with whom he was actively engaged during the Bristol Riots of 1831 and against the Chartists in 1842, when he himself captured a leading Chartist Arthur O’Niel at a riot near Dudley Waterloo 1815 (Corpl. William Emmott, Royal Horse Guards.) fitted with contemporary replacement silver clip and bar suspension, latter part of rank erased, edge bruising and contact marks, fine and better £3,600-£4,400 --- William Emmott was born in the Parish of Trawdon, near Colne, Lancaster, and enlisted into the Royal Horse Guards on 12 March 1811, aged 20. He served with the Blues in the Peninsula at the battles of Vittoria and Toulouse, and as a Corporal at Waterloo. He was commissioned as Quartermaster in the Royal Horse Guards on 25 September 1828, and retired on half-pay on 31 December 1831. He was afterwards drill Sergeant to Lord Villiers’ Bicester Troop of the Oxford Yeomanry Cavalry before being appointed Captain and Adjutant of the Worcester Yeomanry Cavalry by Lord Plymouth, serving in that capacity until his death on 14 April 1865, During this period the WYC was very actively engaged with the frequent riots and protests of the times, including the Bristol, Worcester and Staffordshire riots of 1831 and the Chartist riots of 1842, much of which is described in a letter of petition from Emmett in February 1859 (copy sold with the lot). Captain Emmott was buried at Tardebigge, the funeral being attended by Lord Lyttelton, the Lord Lieutenant, the Bromsgrove and Redditch Companies of Rifle Volunteers, and 450 of the Worcester Yeomanry Cavalry with the Band, under command of Lord Dudley. Sold with research including a copy of his original Commission as Quartermaster and a typed copy of a 6-page letter written by Emmott describing the events following the battle of Vittoria [dated 27 October 1813], these both being held by the Household Cavalry Museum. Emmot’s two-clasp M.G.S. medal is held by the National Army Museum, Chelsea, London. A fine portrait of Captain Emmott mounted on his favourite charger by Sir Francis Grant can be found in the history of the Worcester Yeomanry Cavalry.

Pair: Company Sergeant Major W. J. Bailey, Royal Scots Fusiliers India General Service 1895-1902, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (541 C... W. J. Bailey 1st Bn.... Fus); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (541 ... r:-Serjt: W. J. Bailey. Rl: Scots Fus:) contact marks, good fine (2) £100-£140 --- William John Bailey was born in Barbados, West Indies. He attested for the Royal Scots Fusiliers at Dover in July 1883, and was posted to the 1st Battalion. Bailey advanced to Corporal in April 1884, and to Sergeant in October 1886. He was promoted to Colour Sergeant in February 1891, and served with the Battalion in India, 1896-1901 (awarded L.S. & G.C. in 1902). Bailey was employed on the Permanent Staff, 1st Volunteer Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers, and was discharged in December 1904, having completed 21 years and 141 days service. Bailey resided at 5 Barrett Street, Old Trafford, Manchester, and re-engaged aged 52 for service in the Great War, 12 August 1915. He served at home as a Company Sergeant Major, Drill Instructor, with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers at Fort Matilda. Bailey was discharged to take up civil employment in March 1918. Sold with copied service papers.

2nd Bn Royal Berkshire Regiment Pre WW1 Khaki Drill Uniform. This KD uniform was worn by 8010 Private Frank Taylor of the 2nd Berkshire's.Comprising:Tunic tailored with stand and full collar, two breast pockets and two internal pockets, field dressing and ID card. Also with loops for Good Conduct Chevron ... Complete with matching overall with zinc buttons. Both intems with original ink stamp "2 BRKS 8010" VGC (2 items) 8010 Private Frank Taylor of the 2nd Berkshire Regiment a pre war regular had enlisted in 1905, he landed with the Battalion in France on the 6th November 1914, prior to this the Battalion was stationed in India. It remained on the Western Front throughout the war. Taylor was reported wounded on the 31st My 1915 confirmed serving with the 2nd Bn and was discharged with the award of a silver war badge on the 27th July 1915
SECOND WORLD WAR PERIOD PILOTS FLYING LOG BOOK. Second World War Period Royal Air Force Pilots Flying Log Book (Form 414) to Thomas Allan Watson, the log book covers his flying training from 9th July 1939 to 30th September 1940, training on the Miles Magister, D.H.60 Moth, and D.H.82A Tiger Moth aircraft at No.28 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School and on the Anson at No.6 Flying Training school, pages are stamped with types/hours flown and signed by instructors, moved onto Anson aircraft at No.6 Flying Training School, Sequence of Instruction Proforma (Anson), Cockpit Drill insert, and diagram of Fuel System pasted into book, qualified for Flying Badge 17th June 1940, together with a quantity of ephemera including photographs of Watson as a Sergeant relaxing playing cards in the Mess, Flight Lieutenant working at a desk in his room, and as a Squadron Leader on a Junior Commanders Course, interestingly there is also a letter from the British Overseas Airways Corporation A.T.A (Air Transport Auxiliary) Instructional Unit re an interview and flight test dated 13th November 1940, with a pro forma letter outlining the organisation and qualifications needed for candidates to the A.T.A., (this includes the fact that a candidate shouldn't be eligible for or already in the R.A.F.), it is not known if Watson actually served in the A.T.A. but there is also a pay and allowances form showing him as a Flight Lieutenant at RAF Malta in September 1945, (qty).

A sapphire and diamond dress ring, featuring a centrally carved cushion-cut sapphire of 13.6 x 9.5 mm, superimposed with a cluster of old-cut diamonds, to a later mount with foliate shoulders encrusted with rose-cut diamonds, to a tapering shank with beaded details, metal testing as 18ct, size P, in a S.J.Phillips case, 4.8 grams.The sapphire possibly from the 18th century, consists of dye in the side drill holes, the stone is secured by the diamond cluster element.

Narborough, Birmingham 1961; together with an officer's umbrella, rattan handle with silver-gilt collar inscribed 'T.R. DAMES LONGWORTH. IRISH GUARDS', hallmarked for Maria Johnson, London 1915, also marked 'BRIGG LONDON', grip concealing a nickel mounted pencil; an officer's wooden short sword cane, white metal collar with moulded buckle detail and inscribed 'H.W.
