A group of WWI/WWII medals to C H L Greenhill, 13th County of London Battalion (Kensington), comprising: 1914 star with bar (2147 Pte C H L Greenhill 1/13 Lond R), BWM and Victory (Cpl), 1939-45 Star, War Medal and Territorial Efficiency medal, Geo VI (Sgt Greenhill), mounted on a bar as worn, together with matching set of miniatures; and a quantity of paperwork, photographs, etc, much of it relating to the fact that he was a prisoner of war in both WWI and WWII, the WWII photos mostly with the stamp of "Stalag XXIA", many post card size of the camp concert party and one of him standing beside the WWI grave of Maj Cedric Charles Dickens, one of the photos together with a German phrase book, bearing the stamp of "Stalag 344", the other paperwork includes programmes for shows put on by the concert party (fragmentary), his army discharge certificate dated February 1919, his WWII reservist call up papers dated August 1939, Soldiers Pay book, pre WWII passport, private letters, copies of "The Kensington", the journal of 13 London Regt, from Vol 1 No 1 (June 1937) to Vol 18 No 3 (Sept 1959) and odd copies up to 2010, several note book diaries, a typed account of his time as a Prisoner of War, a 1915 dated slide rule in its leather case, a telescope by Dolland, London (a bit cloudy) in its leather case, etc, all contained in a large suit case, the lid marked in large letters "C.H. GREENHILL. P.O.W. 6974" (worn). A fascinating lot worthy of careful research. £350-400

A CULPEPER TYPE BRASS MICROSCOPE BY DOLLAND, LONDON, EARLY 19TH CENTURY the tube body with 'S' scroll supports to the circular platform, inscribed 'Dolland London', and with an adjustable mirror hinged on a pair of uprights, on a stepped mahogany foot with a single drawer containing four additional lenses and three prepared bone slides, the fitted pyramidal case with a drawer containing other accessories 46cm high Catalogue Note Edward Culpeper (1670-1737) developed this style of microscope around 1728 and it proved so popular that versions were made by many other instrument makers throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.

A 19TH CENTURY FIGURED MAHOGANY 6” WHEEL BAROMETER SIGNED DOLLAND, LONDON The case with caddy top and ebony string inlay fitted silvered calibrated dials and mercury glass tube95.5cm highthe barometer has its original tube, and the mercury has air bubbles, the case has been cleaned and repolished, a small piece of timber missing from the bottom, and the silvered dials and thermometer are in good condition. Minor splits to the veneer at the top.
