Lot 50

Registration No: 704 YUJ Chassis No: 41059 MOT: ExemptCreated by the previous owner for use in VSCC trials and speed eventsExtremely attractive aluminium bodied special built by Chris ComptonFitted with Wade R020 superchargerOffered with a collection of invoices and current V5C documentBetween 1933 and 1938 triumph produced a large, if somewhat confusing, range of excellent sporting Saloons, Coupes and Tourers under the Gloria moniker. All but the final iterations were powered by engines of four or six-cylinders, that were of overhead inlet / side exhaust valve configuration designed by Coventry Climax and modified and manufactured by Triumph. They drove through a manual four-speed gearbox supplied by ENV. The model was developed by new recruit Donald Healey and did more than any other to establish Triumph as the producer of quality sporting motorcars. The adopted name of Gloria is rumoured to have been that of a Selfridge's fashion model who featured in some early publicity shots of the mark.Created by the previous owner between 2011-2012, for use in VSCC trials and speed events, this is an extremely attractive aluminium bodied Triumph Gloria Special, fitted with a Wade R020 supercharger and built by Chris Compton of Compton’s of Welshpool, known for the repair and restoration of Alvis’ for over 40 years and with a reputation for his craftsmanship. Finished in Grey and complemented by Black spoked wheels, the Special is VSCC registered.Regarding the build, there’s a handwritten invoice note on file for £6,041 for the work to create the Special, that also states that other components were sourced elsewhere, such as the Beaulieu Autojumble and builder Chris Compton. The notes states the chassis as having been sourced from the Pre-1940 Triumph Club, the body made by Compton, as well as the trim by him and the supply of the wheels was from Compton’s own stock. Electrics, instruments, distributor, dynamo, fan, carburettor, fuel pump were hand-picked from Beaulieu. There are a number of images on file that show some parts of the build. Mechanically, there is a £2232.60 invoice dated 16th August 2010 from The Coventry Boring and Metalling Co. Ltd that relates to work to have the Coventry Climax blocked stitched, machined to fit liners, crankshaft re-ground, conrods remetalled, main bearings remetalled and the flywheel refaced. A Derek Chinn Precision Engineering invoice dated 10th April 2012 for £3,059.95 details work to overhaul the Wade R020 supercharger. There is a further invoice for £430 on file dated 14th February 2011 from the Pre-1940 Triumph Club Ltd for the purchase of an engine block, crank, cam and crank shafts, gearbox and manifold. This Chris Compton built supercharged Special was bought to trial, however, a change of circumstances means a reluctant sale for the vendor. The Special is offered at the sale with a collection of invoices, photographs on file and a current V5C Registration Document. There is also a collection of spares available by separate negotiation. Registration No: KPU 103C Chassis No: BA74EM59102 MOT: ExemptFinished in traditional Ermine White with Green side flash, trimmed in BlackRestored to fast road/ classic rally specification in c.2005 by Eddie GandertonCarrying the iconic 'KPU' registration prefixPotentially all, or part of a donor shell may have been used to restore the FordIn 1963 Ford was looking to race the two-door MkI Cortina in Group 2, for which the obvious powerplant was the twin-cam version of the 'Kent' engine Colin Chapman had already developed for use in the Elan - the Lotus Cortina was born. In addition to the 105bhp 1558cc engine, the changes included: a close-ratio gearbox, shorter front suspension struts, and trailing arms and coil springs with 'A' bracket at the rear. Wider 5.5J steel wheels were added, lightweight aluminium panels used for the doors, bonnet and boot and quarter bumpers added to the front. Interior amendments included: a new centre-console for the remote control gear lever, different seats and facia, and a wood-rim steering wheel. The MkI model was made until 1966, during which time the most significant upgrades included the adoption of Ford's new 'Airflow' ventilation system and the replacement of the troublesome 'A' bracket rear suspension with leaf springs and radius arms. This 1965 MkI Lotus Cortina, is a right-hand drive example that was restored by marque specialist Eddie Ganderton with extensive details in the accompanying history file. It was to fast road/rally specification in c. 2005. 'KPU 103C' is finished in the traditional Lotus Cortina livery of Ermine White with Green side flash and trimmed in Black, with less than 1,000 miles since an extensive bare-shell restoration. It’s understood that the engine includes a correct 4-bolt crank with matching head and block numbers, fully balanced, gas flowed and ported. It also features a period Magard double throttle linkage on Weber 40 DCOE 18s, a 2-inch exhaust with a competition manifold, two Facet fuel pumps in the boot, and Aeroquip fuel lines. This setup is complemented by a competition clutch, 2000E ratios, an original alloy bell-housing and genuine Lotus half shafts which is in keeping with the works rally cars. Also fitted with guniune Lotus rear leaf springs and wedges and mated to a one piece propshaft. The suspension includes adjustable struts and rear Bilstein dampers. Final period touches to this fast road/rally car include a working period Halda, fixed-back front seats and an aircraft clock of the type fitted to Sabre fighter jets of the era.As is often the case with restored 60-year old cars, it's possible that all, or part of, a donor shell may have been used to restore this car at some time. Originally leaving the Dagenham factory with the 'DCK 231C' moniker, today, it wears registration ‘KPU 103C’ since the c.2005 restoration, making the whole package distinctly evocative. 'KPU' registrations became synonymous with competition Fords and the restoration of this car celebrates and replicates the most famous competition Lotus Cortinas, amongst them Colin Chapman's Lotus Cortina road car 'KPU 396C’, which was also raced by Jim Clark and Roger Clark's rally car 'KPU 383C'. In the last 3 months, the Cortina has had a full service, new plugs, new antifreeze, new oil all round, new battery, plus new tyres. Registration No: RO08 RYO Chassis No: 20703120768 MOT: May 2025Just 5,100 miles from newPowered by a 1800cc 16-valve Zetec engine with five-speed gearbox and Sierra differentialBuilt completed and road registered in 2009A kit car inspired by the classic Lotus Seven, the Locost 7 concept was developed in the mid-1980s as a budget-friendly alternative to similar kit cars. It initially used the chassis of a Triumph Spitfire but later evolved to have its own ladder chassis design.Declared manufactured in 2009, the Locost offered was road registered on the 2nd June that year, although it is believed that it only properly took to the road in 2013. ‘RO08 RYO’ utilises a 1800cc 16-valve Zetec engine which benefitted from a full overhaul in 2010 at the cost of over £1,100 including re-boring the block, new big end and main bearings, ground crank, head work and a Kent cam kit. The Zetec engine uses Honda Hurricane carburettors and an Odyssey wiring loom and is allied to a five-speed gearbox and Sierra differential, with the GTS specification also including aeroscreen, harnesses and bucket seats. Covering some 5,100 miles since the completion of the build, the GTS has benefitted from full front suspension renewal and new front wings in 2022 with MAC Motorsport (costing c.£3,700), as well as re-wiring work in 2023. Immense fun for relatively low outlay, this Locost is a great candidate for anyone looking for a kit car for next spring/summer with minimal mileage since completion! Lot 85

Registration - G608 NRNChassis No. - TW2PXXCPTPKD64390M.O.T. - September 2025Odometer - 12,500This amazingly original and ultra-low-mileage Ford P100, offered at No Reserve, has incredibly had just one previous keeper. The vendor explains they purchased it in January 2006 with just 10,000 miles on the clock from a dealer in Worcester; the history shows a first service at 2,971 miles in October 1990, a second at 6,700 miles in February 1992, and a third at 9,576 miles in October 2001. Already in excellent condition when they purchased it, the vendor wanted to take it to the next level, so commissioned a restorer to undertake some renovation work. The pick-up body was removed to be inspected and cleaned, before the chassis was painted and the rest Waxoyled. The fuel tank and rubber hoses were replaced, while the engine was later removed for the engine bay to be repainted. Much of this work is evidenced in photographs. The vendor describes the engine, transmission, electrics and interior as all being in ‘excellent’ condition. The rear deck within the Truckman top is also incredibly clean. ‘G608NRN’ has evidence of detailed servicing by the vendor, including a replacement timing belt and all fluids, a reconditioned carburettor, new crank and camshaft oil seals, plus manifold and rocker cover gaskets. It has formed part of their classic car collection, dry-stored and only used during the summer. They add that, during lockdown in 2020, they gave it a further refresh, including painting the chassis, underfloors and wheels, along with another full service. This has turned it into a genuine time warp example. It comes with all the original manuals and even the original sales receipt. “I have always had a soft spot for these vehicles, as I was in the building trade with my father and this is identical to the one we used all those years ago.” It is a reluctant sale but, after 18 years, they say the time is right for it to be enjoyed by a new owner. The Ford P100 pick-up was originally developed in South Africa, based on the Ford Cortina. From 1988, it was replaced by a more modern Ford Sierra-based model, overseen by Ford UK. It was a surprisingly strong seller and offered with either a 2.0-litre Ford Pinto petrol engine, or a 1.9-litre turbodiesel. The P100 combined the front half of the Sierra with a ladder-frame chassis, which was capable of payloads up to 1,000kg. Always a cult car as well as a workhorse, there was even a Ford P100 pick-up racing series in the 1980s, and today it is a much-loved model by collectors and modifiers alike. Highly original and pristine Ford P100 offered at No ReserveRemarkably low and evidenced mileage of just 12,500 and just one former keeperSympathetic renovation work makes it one of the best surviving Ford P100

Works Sunbeam AlpineTwo time Le Mans competitorFIA HTP papers valid until 2026The Sunbeam Alpine is a plucky little British sports car that was produced by the Rootes Group from 1953 to 1955 and then again from 1959 to 1968. It quickly gained popularity, especially in the United States as it was offered as a two-seater convertible or roadster. It went through several different series and models during its production run, with various engine options and design changes, but importantly, it became a properly impressive competition car. A real David amongst Goliaths.9201 RW is one of the three Sunbeam Alpines built by the Rootes Competition Department for the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans race. It was the first of the three cars to be completed and took part in the pre-race test day in April 1962, where it was driven by Peter Harper, lapping the Circuit de la Sarthe in just five minutes 8.6 seconds - some 12 seconds per lap faster than had been managed by either of the Alpines in practice for the previous year's race. Both 9201 RW and 9202 RW were equipped with a 1,592cc inline-four-cylinder engine known as the 'Rapier 1725' engine, derived from the standard Sunbeam Rapier engine found in the road-going Sunbeam Alpine. Initially generating approximately 83bhp, this figure proved somewhat conservative, especially after Brabham's team worked their magic in preparation for the 1963 race.9201 RW was a reserve entry for the 1962 race and, whilst it was unable to start, it took part later in the year in the Tourist Trophy at Goodwood, piloted by Peter Harper, where it was the fastest of the three Alpines in the race, finishing in 12th place overall and sixth in class. With competition in motorsport continually evolving and intensifying, the Rootes engineering team realized that more significant modifications were imperative for the Alpine's prospects at Le Mans. In preparation for the 1963 campaign, weight needed to be shed and more power had to be harnessed. The most notable changes revolved around the engine compartment. Jack Brabham's organisation prepared the engines, lightening and polishing crankshafts, lightening pushrods, and replacing Zenith carburettors with 40 DCOE Webers, while increasing the compression ratio to 12.5:1. These modifications, along with further lightening of the body, had the desired effect as far as speed was concerned, but at the expense of reliability. Two of the 1962 cars were retained by the factory team and entered for the 1963 Le Mans race. 9201 RW was driven by Peter Harper and Peter Procter (race number 33), while Keith Ballisat and 'Tiny' Lewis took the reins of 9202 RW (race number 32). The Harper/Procter car retired after 13 hours with a blown head gasket, whereas the Ballisat/Lewis car made it to hour 19, until it broke its crank while leading the under 2-litre class. As well as the Le Mans races, both 9201 RW and 9202 RW were used on a number of rallies, including the Monte Carlo, RAC, Tulip and Tour de France.During the tenure of its previous owner, from 1988 to 2015, 9201 RW received an extensive yet very careful restoration to then enjoy a second racing career, retaining its original 'Works' colours, registration number and 1963 Le Mans specification, albeit with a milder compression ratio to increase reliability. Unsurprisingly, its second wind of racing was significantly busier than its original career with the Rootes works team, including taking part in several Le Mans Classic races as well as appearances at the Goodwood Revival - on one occasion being driven by former Rootes works driver Peter Procter. When the car was stripped for restoration, numerous period modifications were found still to be intact, and were thankfully retained including the alloy panels, original Microcell seats, dual electrics, and BR front disc brakes. This well-preserved car, accompanied by current FIA HTP papers valid until 2026, is eligible for a wide array of events worldwide. Whether you choose to embark on long-distance HERO rallies or vigorously compete at Le Mans and Goodwood, it offers an underrated but exceptional slice of British racing history, steeped in decades of experience and captured through a multitude of period photos spanning decades. We are informed it not only runs and drives well but races even better, making it an excellent choice for global competition. All these remarkable qualities make this car an enticing addition to the world of historic racing. Lot 117

Ex-NAAFI Mk 1 Escort van in delightfully original condition with low mileage and just three owners from new. Offered without Reserve. Introduced in October 1968 and in production until December 1974, the two-door van version of Ford's first generation Escort became a stalwart of small businesses everywhere, peppering every high street in the UK in the early 1970s. Built at Halewood in Liverpool, some 1,082,472 managed to find homes before the arrival of the Mk2 in early 1975. Most were powered by Ford's ultra-reliable 1,098cc Kent OHV four-cylinder with a single carburettor and a five-bearing crank offering a steady 48bhp, quite enough for most applications. Despite the substantial numbers built, survivors are rare with the British weather, more stringent regulations and advancing technology taking their toll.On offer here is a rare Escort 1100 6cwt van with an interesting story to tell. Finished in Ford Marine Royal Blue, it was first registered on 20th March 1974 to the British MOD-NAAFI, transport department in London who used it for deliveries to military bases for the next four years until it was surplus to requirements. It was subsequently purchased by a Mr Edward Hatton on 3rd July 1978 and kept it in his caring ownership until 2006. The third and final registered keeper, Mr Fred Smith from Henlow, then owned the car from 2006 onwards until he eventually retired from driving. It has recently benefitted from some light cosmetic and mechanical recommissioning having sat in heated storage in the past few years. The odometer at the time of cataloguing reads 79,421 miles and the van is supplied with its V5C, tax discs, old MOTs and an original operators manual. This is a great opportunity to acquire a rare van with low ownership and low miles. Delightfully original, it would make a fantastic promotional tool for a small business and being offered without Reserve means this charming 50-year old 6cwt van will find a new home at the NEC.NB; This vehicle will be issued with a fresh MOT prior to the sale.Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT MK1 VAN Year: 1974 Chassis Number: BBAVPY41642 Registration Number: TMY 767M Transmission: Manual Engine Number: PY41642 Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHDClick here for more details and images

Lot 187

Fully recommissioned and beautifully presented, this stylish 308 GT4 is on offer directly from Chris Rea's private Collection. Introduced at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, the Dino 308 GT4 was a significant departure for Ferrari in several ways. It was the first production car from Modena to feature a mid-engined V8, a layout that would become common to their core range for decades to come, along with the first production model to feature Bertone styling rather than Pininfarina bodywork. The chassis was based on the Dino 246 but was stretched to make space for a 2+2 configuration and the 3-litre V8 was integrally joined with the gearbox and featured an alloy block and heads with dual overhead camshafts fed through four Weber 40 DCNF carburettors. The styling was controversial at the time, with some journalists comparing it to the Bertone-designed Lancia Stratos and Lamborghini Urraco and the proportions gave traditionalists an attack of the vapours but, as is often the way, Bertone's styling effort probably looks better now than it ever has. For all this, the car was a huge success, being bigger and more usable than any other mid-engine car had managed or would manage for a while. More than 3,600 were sold, dwarfing sales of V12 models and showing Ferrari the way forward. Today, these 1970s Ferraris have come of age with their classic looks and brilliant handling and are as fast as you are ever going to need in the real world, with a top speed of over 150mph and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds.Chris Rea, the singer, songwriter and musician, has an enduring passion for Ferrari with many finding their way through his hands over the years, however one particular model has been a constant within his stable, that being the Dino GT4 appearing in many guises, from out and out race versions which have been spiritedly campaigned by him over the years through to superb road-going examples such as this particular steed, the latest to have received the 'Rea touch'. Purchased some years ago in need of a little TLC, the decision was taken to entrust Ferrari specialists, QV of London, with whom Chris has a longstanding relationship, to fully recommission his latest acquisition to ensure longevity and reliability wherever possible. As is often the case, the timescale to complete the restoration became elongated as the list of desired works steadily increased, resulting in the bodywork being refinished, the engine being fully rebuilt and enhanced, the interior being completely refreshed and the running gear totally overhauled. Looking deeper into the schedule of recommissioning and the associated invoices, it's noted that the engine now has fully balanced internals including the high-compression pistons and polished crank, the running gear was totally removed and stripped prior to being overhauled, re-bushed and powder coated as required but not before the decision was taken to fit uprated springs and dampers, new brake calipers - front and rear, stainless brake hoses, a new steering rack and much more. The 308 GT4 is one of the few small Ferraris that suit a two-tone colour scheme. Chris' own Ferrari Pirelli Challenge car was red and gold, but in this case he chose to finish it in (we understand) a very stylish Grigio Ferro over Blu Dino Scurro. The Bordeaux Red seating and carpets present beautifully and the refurbished Cromodora alloys are as you would expect from a quality recommission. Unusually, it's one of the very rare cars with 'factory' rear seats delete, which may seem strange as the GT4's raison d'etre was the extra seating, however luggage space in the 308 GT was minimal so as a 'touring' car it made sense. With the recent in-depth recommissioning, Ferrari aficionado ownership, celebrity provenance and magazine-featured, this is one GT4 that will enhance any Prancing Horse collection and is ready to be enjoyed as intended when it rolled off the production line almost 45 years ago. It should also be noted that so fresh is the build that a period of running in is still required. Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer.Specification Make: FERRARI Model: 308 GT4 Year: 1980 Chassis Number: 15468 Registration Number: TPO 1F Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Odometer Reading: 53000 Miles Make: RHD Interior Colour: BurgundyClick here for more details and images

Lot 180

Very well known multi Championship-winning Twin-Cam now returned to pristine condition, with a remarkable restoration. By the time the Escort first came out in 1968, Ford were already firmly wedded to the marketing strategy of 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday' and were keenly aware that they would need a race/rally version to take over from where the mighty Lotus Cortina had left off. To this end, Ford’s Boreham-based competition department had been quietly beavering away on a Lotus-powered Escort that was ready to roll as soon as the standard models hit the showrooms. Called the 'Twin Cam', the hot new Escort immediately excelled on the international race and rally circuits, winning countless events and securing Ford the coveted World Rally Championship manufacturer’s trophy in its first year of production, a feat which it also repeated the following year.Introduced in 1968 in very limited numbers for homologation purposes, the Escort Twin-Cam is now one of Ford's most revered cars and still regarded as a formidable road car. Based on a reinforced Type 49 body shell with wider wheel arches, quarter bumpers, uprated suspension and front disc brakes as standard, it was powered by a Lotus-designed, 8-valve twin camshaft head mated to Ford’s 1.5-litre pre-crossflow block bored out to 1,558cc offering 110bhp and 115mph. Only 883 Twin-Cam models were made before production ended in 1970 to make way for the BDA-powered RS1600. The car presented here is a very special Twin Cam - NBH 769H was an early production example, bought brand new from the Aylesbury Motor Company in 1969 by Mick Briant – the hugely successful British rally driver who won the Motoring News Championship three times, the BTRDA and the Welsh Championship. Mick has documented his illustrious history in British National Rallying in three books in which NBH 769H features. Mick recounts his exploits in the car with much enthusiasm: 'I don’t recall my actual first outing (in NBH 769H), but my first National event was the January 1970 Rally Bristowe, with Mick Mancy navigating (numerous photos of the pair appear in one of Mick’s book, 'Do you have to drive like that?'), we managed eighth overall out of 150 starters'.Mick went on to endow NBH 769H with an upgraded engine, courtesy of Racing Services of Twickenham, stroking and boring the original block and taking it out to 1,860cc. The engine was dry-sumped, had a steel crank and rods, Cosworth pistons and L1 cams, big valves and some other 'trick' bits. Mick states: 'I don’t recall the actual power output, but it was the best engine possible until the 2-litre alloy-blocked Cosworth BDA become an option'. Mick recalls that NBH 76DH went onto receive the de-rigueur big arches of the time and a colour change to orange (which coined the car the nickname 'The Orange Box').He did several rounds in the prestigious Motoring News Championship in NBH 769H, always finishing in the top ten and in 1971 Mick won the London Counties Rally Championship in NBH 769H, with Donald Close navigating. The car was renewed in-period and returned to white bodywork with a black bonnet that displayed the ‘Go Perrys’ livery (the Ford dealer in Aylesbury). NBH 769H is listed as 'Escort 1860' (car #40) on the entry list of the 1971 Jim Clark Memorial Rally, in which Mick drove (with Peter Robinson navigating), and of which a photo exists of the car on the start line.In 2017, our vendor (a rally enthusiast, driver and car collector) acquired NBH 769H and entrusted it to master engineer, Andrew Stapley of ASM Classics in Kent, who specialise in restoring some of the best classic Fords in the UK. Over some four years, our vendor has invested c.£65,000 in bringing this venerable rally car up to a remarkable standard. So much so, it was invited to be displayed at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2021, where after nearly 50 years apart, Mick Briant and Peter Robinson were reunited with the car, plus some of its navigators, all autographing the inside of the doors (captured in photos and video).ASM's expert attention included a full renewal of the Twin-Cam signature paint colour, Ermine White (with black bonnet and in period livery), its big-arch Type 49 shell, its revered Lotus Twin-Cam engine (with associated dyno readings), its DCOE Weber carbs, 4-speed gearbox, competition clutch and pressure plate, English axle (with 4.7 diff ratio & LSD), coil sprung front Bilstein suspension, leaf sprung rear, plus the addition of Cibie spotlights and a whole host of mods to make this into a formidable period rally/fast-road car.NBH 769H has only been used sparingly since its complete restoration, residing in our vendor’s private Collection, but notably, it was driven ‘up the hill’ at Shelsley Walsh by our vendor and indeed, one Mick Briant – again, all captured for posterity and provenance. MOT'd and 'match-fit', this is a turn-key classic performance Ford. This really is a special car and deserves to be fully appreciated and enjoyed by a similar enthusiast. If you simply want the best possible Mk1 Escort Twin-Cam, this one might just be too good to miss!Specification Make: FORD Model: ESCORT TWIN CAM Year: 1969 Chassis Number: BB49JA17572 Registration Number: NBH 769H Transmission: Manual Drive Side: Right-hand Drive Make: RHDClick here for more details and images
