Good colour and figuring. Signs of age and use throughout including: Hinges lacking from the top; losses to the top of the back board where hinges were attached; replacement lock, hasp and escutcheon with some associated interior patches; small patch to front bottom edge.

Top hinges replaced. Evidence of old worm to the left back stile - none evident elsewhere. Left side panel adapted as a hatch with exterior hinges at the botton.
An early 18th century carved oak block fronted coffer / blanket box chest. The coffer having a flared rectangular hinged top opening to reveal a spacious interior with candle side lidded compartment. Geometric panel decorated front with recessed panel sides. All raised on stub stile feet.Measures approx. 68cm x 112cm x 54cm.
AN UNUSUAL SMALL CHARLES I CARVED AND PANELLED OAK CHEST OR COFFER POSSIBLY GLOUCESTERSHIRE, CIRCA 1630 56cm high, 87cm wide, 46cm deepProvenance: Private Collection, Wiltshire Condition Report: Coffer with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits, chips and some losses. The expected evidence of old worm in places - see images. Some old but later securing nails to the top (possibly 17th or 18th century). Hinges and lock plate are old replacements. No key is present. Hasp is lacking and has been replaced by an inset section of timber. Batons of timber to sides of top are old replacements. Areas of losses to lower elements of coffer from old worm - see images for extent. One side stamped with possible ownership stamps 'AB'. These appear to be of the period.
