A CHINESE GILT-LACQUERED BRONZE FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA PROBABLY 20TH CENTURYSeated in dhyanasana with the torso encircled by a billowing scarf, the right hand raised in abhaya mudra and the left held in dhyana mudra, dressed in flowing robes with elaborate jewellery, the hair in a high chignon with an intricate five-pointed headdress, the face with a serene expression and downcast eyes, raised on a lotus base with a seven-character Qianlong mark, the baseplate with a double vajra, 39.5cm, 4.7kg. Provenance: from the collection of Monsieur Jacques Bachelet (1841-1927) and thence by descent.

An enamel, emerald and cultured pearl wreath brooch stamped “K18” together with a parcel of antique jewellery. The wreath brooch tests as 18ct yellow gold and measures approximately 2.8cm in diameter. Together with a carved agate cameo of a Chinese fishing bird and fan in a brass mount; a shell cameo featuring a portrait of the Ancient Greek goddess Athena, in a precious yellow metal mount testing as 18ct gold; plus a double strand of graduated, simulated pearls with a garnet and seed pearl set clasp, stamped “9ct”. gross approximate weight of the two precious metal brooches: 20.56 grams.

Like Wang Hing in Canton and Hong Kong, Tuck Chang sold high-quality jewellery, silver wares, jade and ivory. (A. Von Ferscht, Chinese Export Silver 1785-1940, 4th edition 2015).

A monumental Chinese polychrome and gilt stucco figure of GuanyinEarly Ming dynastyThe tall figure raised on lotus pedestal, with a large urna to the forehead, elaborately moulded and carved wearing flowing robes with ribbons, further adorned with belt and jewellery in gilt, 240cm high. Provenance: Barakat Gallery, circa 2000.Radio carbon dating report of 4 October 2007 confirms the production date to be between 1410AD - 1485AD. 明早期 彩繪描金泥塑觀音像來源:90年代末購自Barakat畫廊2007年10月4日放射性碳元素檢驗報告,斷定為公元後一四一零至一四八五年間。cf. The deity likely originated from the Shanxi region. Sculptures in the Yuan / Ming dynasty temples of Shanxi region share similar features such as broad shoulders, a square and rounded face, slender fingers, and flowing sleeves. The present sculpture is comparable to those from the Fusheng Temple in Yuncheng and the Guangsheng Temple in Linfen.

The stylistic features of the current figure confirm the original location of the current deity to be from Shanxi. Similar figures can be seen in the Shuanglin temple in Pingyao, each with a rounded face featuring a slightly pointed chin.Condition Report: Extensive restoration throughout with new gilt and pigment applied overall and some reconstruction of the stucco. A few chips to edges revealing fresh and some old material underneath. Evidence of the head having been reattached, and of at least a large section also re-attached to the lower back edge of the figure. At least a further repaired crack to the back of one arm.
A Chinese jewellery box/casket, black lacquer with mother-of-pearl and hardstone decoration of ladies, the lift-up lid with red satin interior above a pair of cupboard doors with two interior drawers, with brass-effect mounts, 24 x 36 x 23cm.Condition Report: The mounts have some discolouration but the box is generally good, with hardly any marks.
