A pair of fine late 19th century French studs by Frédéric Boucheron, the oval damascene steel plaques with highly decorative vari-coloured Mannerist style gold and metal inlay, depicting formal figural scenes including birds and animals, with scroll and arabesque detailing, mounted in gold, French assay marks, lozenge maker’s marks, with Boucheron case, plaque dimensions 28 x 21mm. £800-£1,200 --- This style of metalwork originated in Damascus, hence its name, and is thought to date back to 700 AD. The process involves inlaying different metals, usually gold or silver, into a darkly oxidized steel background, to create intricate patterns similar to niello. It is likely that the damascene plaques in this lot are by the French engraver Jean-Claude Tissot (1811-1889).
A pair of diamond ear clips by Hans Georg Mautner, 1963, each designed as two overlapping leaves formed from ropetwist wires and centred with three brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18ct gold, maker’s mark, London hallmark, total diamond weight approximately 0.30 carat, length 20mm. £800-£1,000 --- Hans Georg Mautner (1901 - circa 1972) Born in Austria, Mautner undertook his apprenticeship in Prague , then working for the wholesale jeweller Bethhold Muller in Hanau. In 1925 he established his own workshop and retail premises in Vienna, exhibiting regularly at the Künstlerhaus, Vienna’s oldest surviving Arts Society. His work from this early period is sculptural and Art Deco in design. He went on to win a silver medal at the Milan Triennale in 1933, and a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1937. Mautner moved to London in 1938, where he set up a workshop in Hatton Garden. Little is known about him during the 1940s, but through the 1950s and 1960s he produced jewellery for S. J. Rood of Burlington Arcade, Boucheron of Old Bond Street and Garrard & Co. Ltd. of Regent Street. Condition Report Gross weight 13.8gm.

Waterman Edson Boucheron limited edition fountain pen, with box, outer box, papers and original dossier. The Boucheron series was limited to the magic number of 3741 (1311/3741), adding together the founding years of each companies (1883 & 1858). Waterman gold cap and gold filigree barrel and section are set off with deep blue barrel, section and clip inlay, medium 18K nib. This set also comes with special case of six salesman brochures highlighting many of the details of the pen, possibly sent to retailers as the introduction of the model. Length 6†and 6 1/8†posted, filling mechanism is cartridge/converter fill (blue converter present). Overall excellent condition, light use to pen, minor wear to box and outer box.

These boxes were apparently given as commemorative presents to guests at the celebrations in Iran. For a pair of Boucheron boxes given to the Dutch Ambassador and probably his wife see Freeman's, Philadelphia, 29 May 2019, lot 240.The specialist box makers Helluin-Mattlinger produced items for retail by Boucheron, as well as by Lacloche Frères and others, between 1935-1959.

A Pair of Duckling Brooches, by Boucheronboth in a walking stance, with yellow textured feathers, a plain polished ribbon collar, feet and beak and a cabochon turquoise eyemeasure 3.5cm by 3.4cm and 3.4cm by 3.3cm The brooches were purchased from Berganza in 2021 for £7,000.00. The brooches are in good condition. They both fasten with hinged double pin catches, with a single trombone fastenings. Both of the wings are signed 'Boucheron Paris'. There is also a maker's mark stamp to the foot of one and the edge of the ribbon to the other, they are illegible, see images. The pins are stamped with the French eagle's head mark and in our opinion would test as gold. Gross weight 26.8 grams. CR made 03.10.24.
An Emerald, Sapphire and Enamel Brooch, by Boucheronrealistically modelled as a cockatoo perched on a branch, the crest and tail feathers set throughout with round cabochon emeralds in yellow pavé settings, the eye and the branch comprised of a yellow pear cut sapphire and three graduated cabochon yellow sapphires respectively, to a plain polished body with enamel decoration in tones of yellow, orange and redmeasures 5.8cm by 2.1cmThe brooch was valued for insurance purposes in 2020 at £5,820.00. The brooch is in good condition with scuffing to the plain polished areas. It fastens with a hinged double pin catch, with a single trombone fastening. It is stamped with the French eagle's head and 'OR 750' and in our opinion would test as gold. It is also stamped 'BOUCHERON' and numbered 'P20935'. The pin is also stamped 'STE B'. Van Cleef & Arpels: A feather brooch, second half of the 20th century Of sinuous twisting design, signed VCA, maker's marks P&Fils; for Péry et Cie, numbered, French assay marks, length 6.5cm The workshop of Péry et Cie began making jewellery in 1875. However it was the founder's son Albert Péry that propelled the firm into the world of high fine jewellery. Amongst the many jewellers of the Place Vendôme that Albert developed relationships with, including Boucheron and Chaumet, Van Cleef & Arpels was the most significant. Péry's first work for VCA was a bracelet made in 1925. The Péry workshop was highly regarded within the high jewellery manufacturing industry, not just for their suburb artistry but also their technical innovations. None of which is better exemplified than their collaborative creation of the Zip necklace. Originally requested by Wallis Simpson, the project took years to perfect the technical creation. Other exceptional VCA projects to come from the Péry workshops include the Ludo bracelets, the ‘passe-partout’ jewels and many of the La Boutique animal brooches.

Property of a Lady of Title: Hans Georg Mautner, an 18ct gold novelty brooch modelled as a tortoise, hallmarked for London 1965, with ruby-set eyes. Length 30mm, 10 grams. Note: Mautner (1901-circa 1972) was born in Weigelsdorft, Austria, and did an apprenticeship in Prague in 1919, then started work in 1921 for wholesale silversmiths and jewellers Berthold Muller at Hanau. He went on to establish a workshop and retail shop in Vienna in 1925, exhibiting regularly at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. In 1933 he won a silver medal at the Triennale de Milano and a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1937. According to his biography which accompanied the catalogue for the 1961 International Exhibition of Modern Jewellery 1890-1961, he came to work in London in 1938 where he had a workshop in Hatton Garden. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, Mautner produced jewels for S. J. Rood in Burlington Arcade and Boucheron in Old Bond Street, both in London. He also made jewellery for the Crown Jeweller Garrard & Co. Ltd from 1952.
Frédéric Boucheron, Clement Massier and Lucien Hirtz. Exceptional display case object in forged silver and glazed ceramics with iridescent surface. Paris work circa 1897.Frédéric Boucheron (Paris 1830 - 1902) jeweler, goldsmith. He started his business in 1858 under the arcades of the Palais Royal, Galerie de Valois n°150 in the center of Paris. His innovative attitude earned him a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867 and the "Grand Prix" at the same exhibition in 1878. Boucheron moved his business in 1893, as the first jeweler, to "the Place Vendôme" a square near the Opéra de Paris, where it is still located. (No. 26) His jewelry and objets d'art are highly valued in aristocratic circles and are worn and purchased by royal families and high society. In 1897, Frédéric Boucheron opened his first foreign business in Moscow. When Frédéric Boucheron died in 1902, his children took care of the further future of Maison Boucheron.Clement Massier (Vallauris 1845 - Golfe-Juan 1917) Ceramist, brother of the well-known ceramist Delphin Massier. Clement is considered to be the founder of the modern ceramic industry of Vallauris at the beginning of the 20th century. From 1856 he worked with his father, Jacques Massier, and was initiated by the Italian master ceramist Gaetona Gandolfi. In 1883 he founded his ceramics factory in Golfe-Juan, on the road that connects Monaco, Nice and Cannes. This would allow him to build a rich and cosmopolitan tourist clientele. In 1887, he became an official supplier to the Crown of England. Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, who worked as artistic director for Massier from 1887 to 1895, would introduce Clement to the magnificent iridescent reflections of his Spanish-Moorish collection of ceramics, which would prompt him to conduct passionate research to develop new types of metallic reflections on the earthenware. "Enameled ceramic with an irised surface" or " Au lustre métallique". At the 1889 World Exhibition, his turquoise ceramics earned him a gold medal. Ceramics au lustre métallique can be seen in important private collections and exhibited in museums such as the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Kirkland Museum of fine and Décorative Arts, Royal Museum of Fine Arts Belgium, Musée de la céramique de Vallauris, Musée de Reims, etc.Lucien Hirtz (Nancy 1864 - Paris 1928) designer. He worked with major jewelers such as Falize and Boucheron for whom he made jewelry and art objects. He studied at "l'Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs" and at the age of 21 he joined Falize as a draftsman. In 1893 he became the first designer for Maison Boucheron.A coupe in ceramic and silver can be found in the Boucheron archives in 1897 under the name "Coupe en grès, pieds et bords en feuillages et anses têtes de loups". A similarly silver mounted and faience example by Auguste Delaherche was previously sold at Christie's, 3 June 1975, Studio Pottery Art Nouveau and Cameo Glass, lot 27. | 8 x 16 x 10 cm.
