Registration No: FB 8604 Chassis No: 60-10530 MOT: ExemptSubject to restoration works during the 1980sDesirable fabric bodied saloon coachworkWell maintained with recent works to the electrical system including the fitment of flashing winkersEligible for VSCC Road EventsIntroduced in 1926, Percy Riley’s 9hp, 1,087cc twin-camshaft ‘four’ was an outstanding engine design by any standards, various versions powering Rileys until 1957. Clothed in stylish bodywork by Stanley Riley, the Coventry manufacturer’s pre-war offerings were among the world’s finest small-capacity sporting cars. Right from the start it was obvious that the 9hp Riley engine possessed enormous potential as a competition unit, and at Brooklands J G Parry-Thomas and Reid Railton were the first to demonstrate just how good it was. The success of their racer led to a production version, the Speed Model, which would turn out to be merely the first in a lengthy series of memorable Riley sports cars. 1929 saw the introduction of the MkIV chassis featuring wider front/rear track and much larger brakes than hitherto. Models available were the Monaco saloon, Biarritz saloon, fabric-bodied four-seat tourer and a brace of coachbuilt tourers.First registered on the 1st July 1930, ‘FB 8604’ is believed to have been originally supplied by Western Counties Automobile Co. Ltd. Little is known about the early history of the Riley, however a green log book on file dating to 1968 shows ownership around the Somerset and Wiltshire area. ‘FB 8604’ benefitted from extensive restoration works during the early 1980s, which included replacement body covering, chassis work, and it is understood that the engine was exchanged for another, correct overhauled unit. Thankfully, the work was directed towards conservation, and much of the original green leather interior is preserved, with the rear seats retrimmed. Post restoration, the Vintage Saloon was to become part of a private museum for some thirty years, before being sold to the previous owner in 2012.The vendor acquired the Riley in 2023 and has used the car for several trips between his home in Cornwall and Portsmouth and has commented that it has been ‘very faithful’. The vendor has installed new coolant hoses onto the car and has fitted non-intrusive LED flashing indicators. He has also fitted a brand-new electric wiper motor, further enhancing driveability during poor weather. Now described as being in ‘very good’ condition mechanically and with bodywork being to the same standard, the Riley should prove to be a very fine Vintage-era workhorse to any prospective new owner. With plenty of support from the Riley Register on offer, the Riley 9HP is eligible for all VSCC road events and their Light Car section. An impressive and interesting charger of good gauge. Free from scratches, dings or repairs.Right Honorable Sir William Joynson-Hicks later,1st Viscount Brentford (1865-1932) and thence by descent Popularly known as 'Jix' was an English solicitor and Conservative Politician serving as a long standing and controversial Home Secretary in Stanley Baldwin's Second Government from 1924 to 1929. Joynson-Hicks was an early authority on transport law, particularly motoring law. In 1906 he published "The Law of Heavy and Light Mechanical Traction on Highways". In 1907 he became Chairman of the Motor Union, and presided over the merger with The Automobile Association in 1911, serving as chairman of the merged body until 1922. One of his first actions was to assert the legality of AA patrols warning motorists of police speed traps.
The 1970 MG Midget is a classic British sports car that embodies the charm and spirit of the 1970s automobile culture. As part of the MG line-up, the Midget has been known for its lightweight design and agile handling, making it a popular choice among driving enthusiasts. Featuring a petite two-seater configuration, this car is both compact and fun, ideal for those who appreciate a spirited driving experience. Under the bonnet, the 1970 MG Midget is powered by a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, which delivers a modest yet satisfying output of around 65 horsepower. While this may not seem substantial by today’s standards, the Midget’s low weight (approximately 1,590 lbs) allows for impressive performance and excellent fuel efficiency. Coupled with a four-speed manual transmission, the Midget offers an exciting, hands-on driving experience, with the engine sound enhancing its charm on winding roads. Visually, the 1970 MG Midget showcases classic lines and an appealing design that captures the essence of 1970s motoring. The round headlights, chrome bumpers, and signature MG grille are all characteristic features that contribute to its timeless aesthetic. Available in a variety of colours, the Midget was designed for open-top driving, with a convertible roof that adds to its allure, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy sunny days on the road. The MG Midget has garnered a cult following over the decades. Owners cherish not just its performance, but also the sense of freedom and nostalgia it evokes. Club events and classic car shows often feature these spirited little cars, where owners share their passion and pride in preserving this piece of automotive history.Originally registered on 9th January 1970 this MG Midget has formed part of a private collection in recent times. It has been well stored in a dry garage, however, a small amount of recommissioning may be required. We are advised the engine starts promptly and runs with good oil pressure. Finished in white with black interior this early Midget, with its chrome bumpers and Rostyle wheels, together with a rollover bar is a good looking example. Overall, the 1970 MG Midget stands out as a representative of a bygone era, cherished by collectors and drivers alike for its fun, engaging, and timeless driving experience. A good entry level car into classic motoring. Consigned by Stewart Banks. STARTS AND RUNS WELLWILL REQUIRE SOME LIGHT RECOMMISSIONING
After spending his formative years as a motor manufacturer experimenting with a variety of models, Henry Ford pared the company's range down to just one - the legendary Model T - destined to become the world's first truly mass-produced automobile. Introduced in October 1908, the Model T boasted a simple 100" wheelbase chassis that contrived to be both lightweight and durable thanks to the pioneering use of vanadium steel. The chassis track width of 56" was the same as that of a horse-drawn wagon, thereby enabling the Model T safely to negotiate rutted dirt roads. The engine was a 20hp four-cylinder side valve displacing 2,896cc and the transmission a simple-to-use two-speed planetary unit. It is said that throughout the Model T's 19-year production life the thing that changed most often was the price, although in actual fact Ford made detail improvements to the car on an annual basis. Notable early developments were the adoption of electric lighting in 1915, a switch from brass to a black-finished radiator the following year and the option of an electric starter in 1919.This is a rare opportunity to own a 1925 Model T Ford which has featured in many television series such as Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge but has also been seen in films such as Fantastic Beasts, Wicked Little Letters, and to be shortly to be released, 7 Dials from the Agatha Christie novel. This Model T has multiball characters of its own in one scene it is a two-seat runabout, then twenty minutes later with the back body changed it’s a Model T Pickup, then you can add the canvas top you have a Model T Van. Restored and rebuilt by the previous owner who purchased it in parts in 2010. Acquired by the current owner, once it had been completed, in 2012 to add to his fleet of film hire cars and World War Two military vehicles. In his care he has kept it fully maintained including adding a high-speed starter. Recent work carried out was to completely rebuild the rear axle. Finished in factory black with black seats this Ford Model T is supplied with a V5C registration document and is ready to continue work on the silver screen or just be used on the occasional classic car rally. Fantastic restoration opportunityDesirable 2/4 seater exampleWith more short chassis cars than tourers being produced in 1929, the efforts of the Aston Martin Works were clearly going towards the sports end of the market. By the end of the year the ‘Standard Sports Model’ had developed into the ‘Four-seater "International" Sports Model’, more commonly known simply as the "International". It was quickly and widely regarded as one of the best light sports cars of the day. The appearance of the cars at Brooklands racetrack and in rallies, sprints and hill climbs all around the country alongside the works team cars, increased the cars’ sporting reputation. The "International" was expensive but performance was good enough for the motoring press to praise the car highly. A significant amount of advertising was placed in the popular motoring press highlighting competition successes. The four-seater "International" Sports was built on the short chassis, most of the first series cars were bodied by E. Bertelli Ltd. The standard "International" coachwork was a slightly perpendicular open 2/4-seater, with minimal space in the back for passengers. It was characterized by a rather high profile stemming from a tall ‘wet case’ radiator (the shell forming the water tank) which was further emphasized by the 21" wheels. The fuel tank was enclosed beneath the rear of the body and the spare wheel bracketed on to the body at the extreme rear. The exhaust system was taken from the cylinder head in a simple manifold with the downpipe going down inside the bonnet to the tail pipe and exhaust box below the car. The windscreen folded forward from the base, not flat onto the scuttle (with the exception of the "International Le Mans" model). The engine, a Renwick & Bertelli designed overhead camshaft four-cylinder eight valve engine with dry sump as per the ‘Standard Sports Model’ had a power output approximately 60 bhp at 4,750 rpm. With twin SU 1⅛" side draught carburettor, Magneto ignition and two ‘Autopulse’ fuel pumps mounted on the rear of the chassis. Aston Martin designed a 4-speed crash gearbox with straight cut gears, constant mesh main shaft and layshaft, dog clutch fourth speed and reverse. Performance was brisk! approximately 80 mph and the price new in 1932 was circa £595.Originally purchased and registered in April 1931 to a W.H. Birmingham of Pyford near Woking, Surrey, this International 2/4-S passed to Viscount Curzon (later sixth Earl Howe) who was a known racing driver and Vice-Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club, director of Automobile Proprietary Ltd., Motoring Services Ltd., and a member of the RAC Public Policy Committee, the British Motor Sport Council. AMOC records show that GO 825 was never raced and thus presumably used on the road by the Viscount. In 1950 AMOC records show that a Mr R.G. Phillips in Cardiff owned GO 825 before the buff logbook shows Mr Gregory purchased it in Wimbledon in July 1952. Later Mr Norman and Mr Todd both owned the car in 1957, both residing in Surrey before Todd sold it to PO W.P. Dymund of RAF Debdon, however he also owned the car for less than a year before our vendors father Dr N. Powers of Cambridge purchased the car. He eventually moved to Binstead on the Isle of White with the car and has owned until his passing recently. The 1931 Registration document lists the car as cream with maroon but in 1957 the colour changed to green, the colour still found on the body today. The car has been in the Powers family for 65 years and his daughter had hoped to restore it with her father. The car, even in its current state will be missed by the family but unfortunately, they are unable to undertake the restoration themselves. An open bodied sports car in 2/4 configuration as denoted in the AMOC records. The original books and the International information are also available as collected by Dr Powers over his ownership. When Dr Powers passed away, the car was in two separate locations, but it has now been bought together and catalogued as you can see on the Historics website. The car is believed to be a fairly complete but requiring full and detailed restoration. The chassis number can be found stamped on the chassis but sadly the original chassis plate is not present. The items will all be at the auction location for collection with a selection of parts on display, with a pull photo catalogue reflecting that of the website to ascertain what is included in the sale.Included with the Lot are AMOC documents from the car’s early history and photos of the car in its original state, Buff logbooks and some later invoices from Dr Powers Tenure. A fantastic and unique opportunity to own and restore an Aston Martin International with known history from new. Launched in late 1985, the 560SL convertible/coupé was the latest in Mercedes-Benz's long and much loved line of luxury sports cars that could trace its lineage back to the 230SL of 1963. In the 560SL's case its Type 107 bodyshell had debuted on the 350SL (introduced in 1970) and this timeless style would continue in production for another five years. The 560SL was powered by a 5.5-litre, overhead-camshaft V8 engine producing 227bhp, an output good enough for a top speed of 220km/h with 100km/h reachable in around eight seconds. There were improvements to the running gear in the form of anti-dive/anti-squat rear suspension, a limited-slip differential and revised steering geometry. Other noteworthy features incorporated as standard in this class-leading automobile included leather upholstery, anti-lock braking, anti-theft alarm system, stereo radio/cassette, leather trimmed steering wheel/shift lever, and an improved climate control system.Built in 1986 and first registered in March of the same year to its first owner in Japan, the Arctic White with Blue cloth interior example on offer here is rare. Not only in its V8 engine specification, but also in that it has only covered a mere 101,902Km, translating into only 63,319 miles. Presenting very well and having just benefitted from some recommissioning work along with a MoT test, it has been professionally stored in a dry, dehumidified unit for the past 10 years ever since it was imported into the UK. A European specification car, the car boasts the more attractive “Euro” bumpers, body etc. Boasting almost every optional extra except for heated seats and orthopaedic back rests, this meant that the 560SL is endowed with ABS, limited slip differential, driver’s side airbag, climate control, a foot operated parking brake, cruise control and much more.Supplied with a current MoT test certificate valid until September 2025, original books in their original wallet, original service book and copy of its Mercedes-Benz certificate of conformity. Whilst at the time only the American’s, Japanese and Australians were blessed with the 560SL, nowadays us Europeans also get to enjoy these fantastic pinnacles of the 107 range.
