He is perhaps best known as a former Maitre Chef de Cuisines at the Dorchester Hotel in London, an appointment he held from 1975 (aged 28) until 1988, during which time the restaurant at the Dorchester became the first outside France to achieve a two star rating in the Michelin Guide. In 2000 Mosimann received the Royal Warrant of Appointment to HRH Prince of Wales (now HM Charles III) for catering. Mosimann has cooked for five British Prime Ministers and four presidents of the U.S.A., as well as four generations of the British royal family, and notably at the evening reception of the wedding of HRH Prince William to Catherine Middleton in 2011. Condition Report: This service is in overall very good condition with few signs of wear or use, amounting to the occasional light scratch to the porcelain and minor wear to footrims. Three dinner plates, one side plate, one tea cup and one saucer have an incised X to the underside, probably indicating these are factory seconds - these plates do not show any signs of defects. Nine side plates and five tea cups have green dots to the underside, indicating these are factory seconds - these plates do not show any signs of defects. A Great War ‘casualty’ pair awarded to DH.9 observer, Second Lieutenant W. N. Hartley, 49 Squadron Royal Air Force, an 18-year-old who managed to account for three enemy aircraft forced down out of control over the Western Front, prior to becoming the 33rd ‘victory’ of Oberleutnant Lothar Freiherr von Richthofen during the first day of the Battle of Amiens on 8 August 1918 British War and Victory Medals (2/Lieut. W. N. Hartley. R.A.F.) good very fine (2) £400-£500 --- Walter Noel Hartley was born in Liverpool in December 1899. He was the son of an auctioneer at Hartely & Co. Walter Hartley was educated at the Liverpool Collegiate School, and enlisted in the Royal Flying Corps as soon as he turned 18. He was accepted for officer cadet training in December 1917, and was commissioned Temporary Second Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force in May 1918. Hartley was posted for operational flying as an Observer with 49 Squadron (DH.9’s) in France on 6 June 1918. Four days later he flew his first operational sortie, a bombing raid on Piennes, crewed with Lieutenant E. D. Asbury as his pilot. This was to prove an eventful first outing, as they, plus the other aircraft that they were flying with, were attacked by 10 enemy aircraft. The combat report provides further detail: ‘We were attacked by ten E.A., five attacking each machine. Pilot [Astbury] engaged one with Vickers, firing short bursts, and one E.A. went down in a vertical nose-dive completely out of control. The Observer [Hartley] fired another burst into another E.A. at short range. The machine went down in a spin out of control turning on to its back, and was followed down close to the ground still out of control. Being attacked by the remaining E.A. it was impossible to observe the actual crashes. During combat an E.A. engaged by the other DH.9 was seen to go down in flames. I consider these machines were driven down out of control.’ This pair carried out a number of bombing raids together throughout the remainder of the month, and they chose to go on the offensive on 29 June 1918: ‘After dropping bombs on objective, formation turned Eastward. About two miles West of Lille several E.A. passed under formation. Pilot [Astbury] dived and fired a burst into an E.A. with Vickers Gun, and then observer [Hartley] fired a long burst into E.A. and after an interval of 15 seconds volumes of white smoke issued from E.A. which turned over and went down completely out of control. Observer watched it go down about 8,000 ft. at the end of which it appeared to be one mass of smoke. 2/Lt. Simpson saw this machine go down completely out of control.’ (Combat Report refers) A similar pattern emerged for the pair throughout July, and they were in combat again whilst on a raid to Mont Notre Dame on 25 July 1918: ‘The formation was attacked by about 15 E.A. 2 E.A. flew past formation to the West of the machine. The Observer [Hartley] fired several small bursts into the E.A. which went down in a spin and appeared to go down out of control. The Observer was unable to follow it down owing to being attacked by several other other E.A. 2/Lt. Scott, Observer, saw this E.A. spin down but did not see it crash.’ (Combat Report refers) August heralded a change of pilots, and Hartley found himself crewed with four different pilots over the course of the first eight days. Combining two forced landings and a engine failure, his luck was to completely run out when finally combined with Lieutenant George Strachan Ramsay as his pilot. The latter being a noted pre-War Scottish footballer, who had turned out for Queen’s Park Rangers, Partick Thistle and Carlisle United. Hartley and Ramsay carried out a bombing raid during the first day of the Battle of Amiens on 8 August 1918. On their return from Béthencourt Bridge they had the misfortune to pass near the Ennemain Airfield, where the infamous Jasta 11 were based. German fighters immediately took off and gave chase. Hartley and Ramsay were engaged, and shot down in flames by Oberleutnant Lothar Freiherr von Richthofen - the younger brother of the ‘Red Baron.’ The were to become his 33rd ‘victory’, and they are both commemorated on the Arras Flying Service Memorial. Sold with extensive copied research.

1936 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Sportsman Coupé by H. J. Mulliner Transmission: manualMileage:36292The introduction of a smaller Rolls-Royce, the 20hp, in 1922 enabled the company to cater for the increasingly important 'owner driver' market. Its successor, the 20/25, introduced in 1929, up-dated the concept with significant improvements, featuring an enlarged (from 3.1 to 3.7 litres) and more-powerful version of the Twenty's six-cylinder overhead-valve engine. Produced contemporaneously with the Phantom II, the 20/25 benefited from many of the features, such as synchromesh gears and centralised chassis lubrication, developed for the larger model, and would become the best-selling Rolls-Royce of the inter-war period. The Rolls-Royce 20/25 was, of course, an exclusively coachbuilt car, and most of the great British coachbuilding firms offered designs, many of them unique, on the 20/25 chassis. This lovely, unique Rolls-Royce 20/25 two-door, two seat fixedhead coupé was specially built by H. J. Mulliner along the lines of the American style sportsman coupé for R Allen Esq. and delivered to Sutton Brailes Hall near Banbury, Oxfordshire in March 1936. The next owner, D.S. Astbury acquired it in 1959 after which it entered the collection of Dr Huw D. Walters in Llangadog, Carmarthenshire. The current owners father purchased the 20/25 from Dr Walters in the late 1980's. The vendor believes that the mileage of 36,292 to be genuine. This coupé has some unusual features including a very large boot, door in the side behind the passenger door to give easy access to get your golf clubs and a special compartment on the passenger side that contains the hand tools. When new the coachwork was black but shortly after being purchased in the late 1980's the colour was changed to the striking combination of maroon with brown above the swage line and brown wings and running boards but retaining the original beige cloth interior. This unique Rolls-Royce 20/25 is supplied with a V5C registration document, the original handbook and copies of the original specification sheets and chassis cards supplied by the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club. We are informed that the car runs and drives very well having been fully maintained and well looked after.

He is believed to have married again to a Jane Coulton in 1680 who was still alive in 1686. James Clowes signed the Clockmakers Company oath of allegiance in 1697 and paid quarterage up until 1705 when he is thought to have died.

A CHARLES II MONTH-DURATION LONGCASE CLOCK MOVEMENT WITH TEN-INCH DIAL IN A LATER WALNUT CASEJAMES CLOWES, LONDON, CIRCA 1685, THE CASE 20th CENTURYThe five thickly-turned ringed pillar outside countwheel bell striking movement (centre latched) with anchor escapement regulated by lenticular bob pendulum, the 10 inch square brass dial with calendar aperture to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with cruciform half hour markers, Arabic five minutes within the outer minute track and signed James, Clowes London to lower margin, with scroll pierced steel hands and applied cast winged cherub mask spandrels to angles, now in a case with cavetto cornice and plain frieze over Solomonic-turned three quarter columns applied to the front angles of the hinged glazed dial aperture, the sides with rectangular windows and conforming quarter columns applied against bargeboards to the rear, the trunk with convex throat over 39 inch rectangular door applied with book-matched veneers within half-round cross-grain mouldings, the sides with conforming veneers, the plinth base with concave top moulding over crossbanded facia and moulded skirt. The case 194.5cm (76.5ins) high, 46cm (18ins) wide, 25.5cm (10ins) deep. James Clowes is recorded in Loomes, Brian Clockmakers of Britain 1286-1700 as born in around 1643 in Astbury, Cheshire, older brother of John (born 1751) and son to James Clowes senior, a nail maker of Odd Rode. James Clowes became a Free Brother of The Clockmakers Company in 1671 - the same year as Thomas Tompion, Joseph Knibb, Daniel Quare and Joseph Windmills. James Clowes signed the Clockmakers Company oath of allegiance in 1697 and paid quarterage up until 1705 when he is thought to have died. Condition Report: Movement is in fine original condition with no visible alteration and noticeable replacements limited to the escapement pallets and probably the countwheel. The movement is reasonably clean and essentially in working order however a gentle clean/service is advised. The dial is original to the movement. The matting is rubbed/worn and the upper margin of the calendar aperture has had a small section of brass inset to lower the height of the upper margin - this was almost certainly done by the maker to ensure that the inner diameter of the calendar ring is large enough to clear the lower than normal winding holes. The dial plate has some casting cracks (near the calendar aperture) as does the chapter ring (one at XII). The chapter ring has some oxidation/rubbing to the silvering and the signature is also a little worn. The hands are nicely made and are in good condition. As catalogued the case is later (20th century) and most likely purpose made for the current movement and dial. The carcass is mostly pine stained dark brown and the veneers are relatively thin. The finish has a pleasing aged/faded look and faults are very much limited to minor bumps, scuffs and shrinkage.Clock has pendulum (no suspension spring), a pair of brass-cased weights (most likely 19th century), a case key but no winder.
