Click here to subscribeA Fine Joined Oak Salisbury Caqueteuse/Armchair Circa 1580-1630. The back having a lunette carved top rail above a fielded panel back ornamented with a large scrolling arabesque defined against a sunken matted ground, and framed in a border of small punchwork crosses. The block arms with angled 'elbows' and outswept scroll terminals on turned column supports leading down to an edge-moulded plank seat with canted rear corners, above a carved seat rail on turned cannon barrel legs joined by peripheral stretchers. Stamped with the initials RH to the top of the front right leg.
A. Molenaz (Spanish, 18th century), VENUS IN A LANDSCAPE, WITH THREE OTHER MINIATURES, signed and dated [1770] lower right, watercolour on ivory (oval miniature), 10 by 9cm. 4 by 3.5in. With three other works, one of which is signed 'R. Arche(r) / 1823' and depicts a woman in a green Empire-line gown with red sleeves. The other two depict in turn, a woman in a white dress with her arms crossed (4.5 by 4.25 inches) and a woman in a blue and white striped dress with her left arm resting on an armchair (2.5 by 2 inches).
